External twin wall flue

Hi
We’re just about to change the flue for our solid fuel Rayburn. Has anyone any experience of these? What is the best (longest lasting and easiest to put up) one to use please? A friend has suggested the black flues last longer than the stainkess steel ones, is that true?

Thank you

The black twin wall pipes is stainless steel just either sprayed black or sometimes
powder coated . As for longevity it will depend on what type of fuel you burn and the quality .
most manufactures guarante there flues for a minimum of 10 /15years subject to what has been burnt ? As if the flue fails they will want to test it to asertain the reason for the falt .
Best consult your local Hetas installer for more advice on fitting .

i think that solid fuel burner have to have a specific material for the flue as most solid fuels are corrosive when mixed with water, condensation etc cast iron is what used to be specified but perhaps your local authority will have rules as to what you must use.

Thank you for the replies. The current flue has lasted about 10 years. I know that I don’t always run the Rayburn at optimal temperature but I just wondered if some flues last longer than others, and if so, which ones.

Both my mother's Rayburn and ours have a length of the stove enamelled steel...sheet steel, not cast iron...sitting immediately on the flue damper box and then they go into Selkirk Metabestos twin wall insulated flue which goes through the roof and up.

They are both Don oil burner (wick) conversions, but my mother's was solid fuel previously...father and I installed their stove and flue originally in the early '80's and theirs was converted mid late '90's.

We moved here 18 years ago and the flue was not new then...I put in a larger model Rayburn a couple of years after we moved in, and put in a new vitreous enamel section...I think it was because the diameter was different.

My mate has a twin wall flue which runs through the house and it runs through the upstairs room, acts like a giant radiator. Building control passed it and it was I think made in Glos. He got it cheaper from a local supplier than directly from the factory. I will try and get the product name.

I used the Negarra MD arrange of twinwall flues. Good quality, very configurable (they make lots of angles and adapters etc) and relatively well stocked in UK.
