F&D Moderator Threads

I am considering getting a F&D moderator for my Blaser R8 308 but all the F&D moderators do not advertise with a Blaser thread, IE a 14x1 spigot.
There has been mention of a spigot adaptor ??? It is quite expensive for what I think it is which is just a very thin collar to cover the spigot on the rifle barrel.
Has anybody had one and am I correct ?

Yes you are correct. Just a collar that takes up the empty space. The collar isn’t even a very good fit. I’d rather have a better one made by my local precision engineering shop. That said, I really like the 196 moderator. Super light, a good level of attention, and I’ve had no issues with it to date (4 years ish, maybe 500 rounds).

Having had a close look at the thread protector for my present barrel, I reckon I could just cut it in half and use the non threaded bit to cover the spigot just leaving the thread bit of the barrel exposed.

The R8 new barrels are 15x1 no spigot. You can get the adaptor easily enough for an older barrel.
Wonder what prompted the change to M15. I guess the spigot was there to aid with concentricity so I’m surprised they’ve now decided they don’t need it.

Just bought a M18 F&D UTS131 to use on a M15 .270 and bought a Hauksen adapter (well several of different sizes). Works well and I have the ability to use the mod on several rifles if need be……

Would you post a picture of your threaded barrel please?
I suppose you are only looking at the thread protector cap. Newer ones by Blaser do indeed have a non-threaded part. But this is just for convinience when installing / removing the cap.
The standard contour Blaser barrel itself will have a M15x1 thread, no spigot.

I've resurrected my thoughts on getting a new F&D moderator but have looked at the prices and seen they are £475 so changed my mind, surely they cannot justify that price ?
