FAC Renewal - Avon and Somerset

Hope this info is useful regarding my FAC renewal

Due end of September 2024

Medical Proforma cost me £99 - not negotiable

Applied for renewal online -Avon & Somerset's preferred method.

No ability to upload pdf scans of Medical proforma only one page as a jpg only as supporting docs - so basically useless and not fit for purpose.

Helpful response from a Firearams Licensing Officer who said that I could email any supporting documentation (scans only) - done

Same at my last renewal so I sent in an email explaining the changes and several supporting documents. It worked

Doctors sent mine direct to A&S. test done one. Very easy, did with 3 months to go on old certificates, new ones arrived last Friday. Great and easy service.

Further developments:
My fault - put a business address for one of my referees - it has to be a personal one
Medical Proforma - had to re-submit as Doctor had not stamped with Practice Stamp
Specific E-Mail address given by A & S to send Medical Proforma once stamped bounced as an invalid Domain Name

All now sorted within 24 hours of them receiving my renewal so hopefully now on track

I have to say that they have been very helful at Firearms licencing making one phone call to me and sending a couple of personal / non auto reply emails.

I did mine online , Derbyshire, only problem was you can't go past the medical bit without entering a pdf, you can't write in Dr's not provided information yet,
So, I had to write a word note ,print it ,scan it with an app on my phone, email it to myself, open email on computer and insert it into renewal form, then it let me go forward.

Word allows you to save documents as a PDF. (So does OpenOffice)

I am due to Renew in the New Year. It is already causing me sleepless nights.

did mine online aas ,doctors sent report straight to them ,doctors charged me £12.00 .all and all a good experience had renewal back in 8 weeks

Does anyone know of a list of Dr`s by area that charge a reasonable amount ? Just wondering as my local one ( Melbourn, Cambridgshire ) wanted £200, prompting me to go with Medcert who Cambs force recommend. Once I told them that I could get the same service privately for less, they wouldn`t budge on pricing & lost out. If I knew of a more helpful surgery locally I would change Dr`s.

I think BASC have a list of doctors they can recommend for a proforma, might be worth asking them who's in your area?

Does not need to be in your area! The BASC doctor used by both of my children for their certificates since our practice will not do them is on the South coast; it was all done over email with them and A&S.

I know, I used Shootcert which isn't anywhere near me, but quarrystalker was asking for someone local so they could change doctors surgery

In our area, finding any practice that will accept new patients is a challenge, let alone one sympathetic to the needs of shooters! We had to threaten formal action in the second instance where the SAR was ignored for 2 months!

Can or did you lodge a complaint with the information Commisionars Ofiice ? I have already renewed & am a BASC memeber, but wasn`t sure if anyone on any of the numerous shooting forums had compiled a list of Dr`s who were helpful or not ? Maybe we should start a county map on here, where people could list Dr`s that were helpful or not.
