Falcon FQ50

Anyone here using this unit yet? Looking for end user in the field honest opinions please and what you have previously used/compared it to, Thanks

As good as a Helion XP50 Pro or at least so close you can’t tell. I have owned and used both.

Batteries cost hardly anything compared to other brands.

Round shape is nice to hold. Square shaped bodies are not so comfy. Also ambidextrous unlike many.

Neck strap loops both high and allow the proper use of a bino harness or bino neck strap instead of a lanyard.

Thanks…that’s what I was hoping to hear, I really wanted the xp50 pro but simply can’t afford the extra 1k

You should be able to get an FQ50 for around 10-15% off if you ring around. Same with the Helion though, which don’t get me wrong is still a very good unit, but it’s crown is no longer head and shoulders above the rest like it was 12 months ago.

I’ve had one quote from my usual supplier for 10% off…..I’m sure 15% would swing it for me 🤣

Awesome unit, copes very well with changes of weather, 18650 batteries are cheap as chips versus pulsars disgrace of prices for batteries

Lots of plus points very little cons,

(Pictures don’t do this justice btw looks 10x better in spotter)

My last unit was an axion 2 xq35 but I need better detection/identification at longer ranges now so fingers crossed this one will tick all the boxes!

Do you get eye fatigue from them
You get it from all digital screens eventually. Bino style thermal’s apparently not so much, but then you end up night blind in both eyes. I use mine for woodland stalking so it’s pretty much glued to my left eye (shoot with my right). I have got to the point now where I can walk and scan and I have enough peripheral vision in my other open eye that I don’t trip over stuff.

The Falcon FQ50 is good value for money.... Although it does have some limitations.

Firstly I find the black hot colour the only usable option, the lens being 0.9 means its very focus fussy, also the software has tried to implement a wide dynamic range, to bring out some more detail, this can cause issues finding animals up close and dropped game as everything blends in, combine that with a 50mm focal length lens in 12 micron and that combination is the maximum for a spotter in my opinion as field of view is drastically hindered in comparison to a 17 micron 50mm... when trying to spot and pickup under 50yards..

High humidity poor weather performance is decent, although not as good as the Raptor RQ for some reason and again not as good as a Helion Pro in the worst of conditions for rendering background detail, etc..

BUT on saying all the above, in terms of value for money at it's price point the Falcon offers a lot of performance for your money...

I use binos and the night blindness does not happen at all to me or my friend who also has a pair
I can use mine for hours and hours - and usually have them to my eyes - without much fatigue at all

Night blindness, I've never known anyone using thermal binoculars suffer at all....although I have with monocular models...

Had several outings with this unit now and I’m really pleased with detection/recognition distances over my previous units
