Fallow antler anomaly.

One of my last year's fallow buck fawns, coming up to a year old in a week or two, has shed the velvet off his antlers (first spikes) today, so is now a pricket in hard horn. I wouldn't have expected to see this for another 2 months at least. Some of my prickets (just coming up to two years old in a week or two) haven't even cast their antlers yet!
What's going on here?

No. I know my deer.
Besides, a newly cleaned antler looks very different from one that's had almost a year of wear and tear. Even someone who didn't know my deer would be able to spot that.

Yes, it is very strange, which is why I'm asking. It is a very forward yearling, and I know that forward yearlings tend to shed velvet first, but not two months early, surely?

My big breeding buck in right casts was always between the 15th and 20th of may my younger buck always around the first week in may but last week in the field behind mine I saw two sorrels that were already growing their bay tines.

Yes, casting dates vary considerably between individuals, although older bucks usually cast first. Either way, it's definitely not normal for a fallow to be shedding velvet at this time.
