Wanted: Fallow buck stalk March 24

Hi guys. Happy new year to all. I’m looking to book a fallow buck stalk for my 30th (March 15th) I have my own rifle, plenty of experience and would like to stalk on foot not from a high seat…ideal in England though Scotland wouldn’t be a problem. If anyone can recommend anyone that would have space and something good to offer please say/let me know, many thanks and kind regards.

I hate to say this as I really don’t wish to offend anyone but I guess that somewhat comes down to price…I’d like a good head that will go well on my wall…(I’d like the carcass too) of course a medal head is the dream…but as I say that depends what the cost is…

Might want to check annually when the fallow shed in each rough area of England, I'm seeing comments on threads of fallow shedding in late march in some areas (what would pose an issue)

Wouldn't be fun shooting a metal and his antlers popping off after the shot. 😬

Very good point thank you

Good point, had me thinking for a minute.

Anglers are going to be fine in March for Australia and the rut won't start till late March or likely early April.

Not so bad if they pop off after the shot: At least you can just pick them up and glue them back on!
But I don't think many fallow will be casting before the second half of April.

That really doesn’t present a problem for a taxidermist
For sure, but it does present an issue for scoring it as a medal I think there automatically disqualified for CIC? I think SCI may be different.

Also too answer VSS: Yeah it would be very unusual if it did happen I looked back in the threads here to gather a bit more information since fallow aren't something I really dabble in, I think it was only one person that mentioned them shedding in late march (unsure what area off the top of my head) but its not a daft question to ask what ever guide your going out with when the deer typically cast in said area, I would imagine a solid 80% of England are casting in April and later though.

I've not shot my red for this year due to several real life issues obviously with February creeping up If I do get out I'll probably shoot a hind now, too much risk shooting a mature stag like we originally planned never know what a shot animal will do and when its only 2/3 weeks off casting a solid thump into the ground could pose some issues!

If you really want to get it scored by CIC then it is a problem. If you just want to shoot a nice buck then no problem.
It also poses the question of: if the stalker charges the client a certain fee for shooting a deer that is a medal head, and the head is disqualified for having an antler fall off, does the stalker still pay the fee? Since it’s not a medal head any more, even though it was going to be at the time of pulling the trigger?

A really good question I doubt a lot of outfitters are prepared on! :-|

OP did mention that he's interested in a medal if someone can offer it for the right price so its something to have in the back of your head if your wanting it officially scored, I imagine this debate will start to show a lot more in the future with the removal of the closed season in Scotland, especially when gold wild stags are a rare enough sight up here people are very happy to shoot on sight since you very well will never see them again.

PS: to OP if you've not already pop a post into deer stalking opportunities, you'll 100% find someone offering days out over there!
