Got home today to find out the farmer where i stay, beat to a pulp in broad daylight and his quad stolen!

He comes into the steading to find 3 lads (17-19), he confronted them, only to be set upon, they punched him off the bike, they took the bike plus all his keys and left him in a heap!

4pm in the afternoon!! Disgusting!!

Then effectively opened every gate on the way out to escape onto a nearby walkway!

As usual police not very helpfull!

Although doubtful!! Any one who hears of anything or the quads were about, would be appreciated.

Green road registered 63 plate, Honda 420, with a winch on. Bathgate/Blackburn/Seafield/Livingston Area

Cheers

Shocking. Not only because this happened in broad daylight but the police just walk away.
Sad times we live in.

A small holding just out side Newmains had a quad stolen last night as well.
Less than 30min along with the road.
Wonder if it was the same team?

Not at all nice ,rural crime and lack of support ,perhaps ADMIN we should have a separate forum heading where things stolen or unscrupulous activity can be posted for a quick reference for the guys in the field ,our own SD. neighbourhood watch/crime watch early alert advisory ,you never know it might help with recovery of quads and dogs ....... but it will certainly alert an area quickly .....

And if you take measures to prevent this kind of attack by having a weapon handy you will get attention from the police without fail.

Stop punishing the victims and start punishing the offender,s 5 years =5 years not 2.5 for good behaviour ,and if a landowner defends himself and the crim gets a beating good .You should be able to defend yourself and your family not fear being jailed yourself.Even call me dave should you should be allowed to do this without fear of prosecution .A mans home is no longer his castle

Agreed Iain!

If you choose to live outside the law you shouldnt expect to receive protection from it - So if you decide to commit a horrible assault and robbery like this and end up getting a thrashing, tough!!

And if you get nicked then expect to receive a hefty prison term with no time off for "good behaviour". It was bad behaviour that got you in prison to start with - You dont get out of detention early at school by going "oh but I'm really sorry now" and it should be the same with prison.

Maybe I'm a simple guy, but crime and punishment isnt that complex. If someone breaks the law, lock them up. If they do it again lock them up again, just for longer this time. Oddly enough people cant keep robbing the general public when they're in a prison cell!!

I hope they catch the trash that did this. Terrible!

I agree. 5 years should mean 5 years. Shouldn't get out early for good behaviour. That's expected! You should get longer if you misbehave in there. As for defending yourself...Yep! Although I think in this case by the sounds of it, the farmer wasn't able to. A good reminder that if you are out and about on your quad, to not leave the keys in it, even if you are in a field in the middle of nowhere.

As for the police, well I hope they catch them. To those who have criticised them already I'd say at least give 'em a chance before lighting up the torches and breaking out the pitchforks.

Didn't the law get changed and you're now allowed to defend your life and property with reasonable force.

Doesn't help if there are three intent younger bar stewards who show no qualms about beating hell out of you to get what they want

Stubear,
Well written please can you go into politics.
In the USA if this happens the farmer shoots them so it seldom happens, funny that.

Sod prison it costs us money. Whatever happened to 100 lashes with the cat o nine tails. Oh sorry can't make the cats:twisted: anymore due to all the Hemp being smoked.

Farmer is now scared of the repucutions! However news seems to have a hold of it now! just watched it on STV news! theyll get away with it! go and do it again!

This sounds very suspiciously like incidents happening to farmers in and around the Cambridgeshire area last year. Appears the problem may have travelled.

As I understand it, the problem is that the law doesn't define ckearly what reasonable and proportionate force is. A system that doesn't tell you what is reasonable until after the fact is useless. Not only that, it has no deterrent value whatsoever. People need to be guaranteed in advance that they will not be penalised for using force on criminals.

a good few years ago I was asleep at an ex g/f's house when I was woken up by here mam screaming the place down and yelling someone was in her room, I jumps up pits the bedroom light on sees a shadowy figure running past me and jumps on it and used reasonable force to stop him, the cops were called and on arrival seen he was a bit bloody around the face, the cop asked me if hed fell as I tried to hold him and I said yes bashed his face on the fireplace :) a few times sergeant ..fair enough he told me and cuffed the c**t. its went to court and the culprits lawer brought up his injuries which the judge dismissed straight away as being reasonable force used against him, this burglary was not the only charge brought against him on the day, there was 17 other counts of house breaking being brought against him and other witnesses where present in court to which the judge on sentencing him told him the witnesses are literally breathing down your neck, he got 9 months and I seen him 5 months later on the street ..ffs  moral is you don't think about how reasonable your being on the spur of the moment all your thinking about is making sure the b*****d don't get away adrenalin takes over
