Feeling a bit bemused - Guided stalk

Tip for the top, if you're want experience and are not focused on trophies, improve your skills on does and hinds in England. If you're shooting in the roe rut, even your over - priced man will be in demand from the Continental crew. There are plenty of roe buck opportunities pre and post rut. Muntjac all year round. Don't slag off and name your stalker. You're bigger than that. Move on and find a better one. I wrote to 150 local farms, advertise in the local magazine and spend lots of time talking to people at the local gun shop!:british:

Thanks very much everyone for your advice!

I was very unsure about posting this to start with as I was concerned about the reaction it might receive. If it has highlighted the potential issues to other novices and made it a bit more clear the sort of things you need to find out then it can only be a good thing!

Luckily my faith has been restored and realise that these people are really the exception rather than the rule in the stalking world.

Thanks again.

Luke, it is not about being 'bigger than that', I did not suggest naming the stalker involved to be vindictive. I suggested it to avoid other novices being treated in such a dismal manner. I have been lucky, I went out with a number of stalkers when I started and they were excellent, that helped build my enthusiasm not curtail it like this chap sounds like he is capable of.

You're in probably a unique position a majority will have no option and even those that have a lease will be paying for the privilege and not much less per head I expect. Still hats off for helping others who don't for what ever reason.

Far from a unique position down here. The pleasure of taking someone out who really appreciates is worth more than monetary terms.
I've been around for a few years and met many thousands of people and there are only two types,
Givers and takers and the majority of business people are takers, just look at the prices they charge. Yet I can do it for nothing, strange that isn't it?

It's refreshing to see that a past time which is often accompanied by expense still has people who are not interested in chasing the coin, well done

Cracking to see the generosity of several guys on here to help others that have be totally ripped off by erses. A couple of years ago my friend took me to his brothers farm to cull a few Roe Doe, ( i was asked as his brother does not own rifle and my mate wanted to give me a chance on a few stalking outings) his brother tried to Rip the proverbial by asking for 600 quid for 5 Doe (considering that i was the one travelling to get there and using my rifle and the costs to me alone was not short of 60 quid to do a favour for him as it had to be done asap) and when i told him to Get To he went away and said to Peter his younger brother and what did my mate do? (we are both ex boxers and doormen, and generally nice guys) Well you can guess as much as you want but his brother will never try Rip the P ever again, My mate Peter said he had tried that before with others and must have thought i would have just given him the money whilst Peter was not there. I was totally embarrassed by what Peter said and done etc to his brother but on thinking back about it, just how many others had he tried it on with? and how many just gave him the money.

Lot of money for pest control.

I have kinda decided I will never pay for stalking and will give it up rather than pay to shoot deer.
