I have for sale a Filson Field Jacket, it’s hard to date these, but I was told this one was made in the 1970’s. It’s certainly US made - unlike a lot of the newer Filson stuff.
These are “tin cloth” waxed jackets. Two generous pockets, one smaller pocket on the chest. It has a lined poachers pouch that can be accessed without taking the jacket off, but can be unbuttoned from the inside for cleaning. Also has two elasticated shell holders with protective flaps as per the pictures (shown with 12 bore and 8x57 rounds which are obviously not included in the sale). Also has a recoil pad tailored in.
Lots of patina, a few marks and stains but nothing you wouldn’t expect. It’s a very cool looking jacket, but one that is quite hard to photograph. It’s pretty stiff due to the amount of wax but you can remove and reapply the wax as you wish to suit whether you want it more weatherproof or more breathable. No rips, tears or holes.
In terms of size, the label says 40”. I’d say this is more like a 46”. It measures 23” across the back from pit to pit. Sleeves measure 23” from the top of the shoulder to the cuff.
The modern equivalent retails at £575 but is lacking a lot of the features of this one. It’s one of those jackets that you’ll be able to hand down through the generations.
