Hi all
Posted recently about my secondhand 22 Hornet purchase, CZ527.
I was using it without a mod, as I did not have one in the correct thread. Not terribly noisy, and it was a novelty having a naked rifle; being so used to moderators.
Anyway, ended up sourcing a thread adapter, and was deflated to find the threading job on the old girl was evidently done in a garden shed with a hammer drill, the culprit probably having downed three cans of special brew (remember that anyone??)
The threading was so bad that there was a crescent moon at two o'clock, when looking up the bore. Oh dear, oh dear. With a mod on, it slightly resembled the below

So, ended up popping over to Neil Mckillop, what a nice chap. About two inches taken off the end of the barrel and a tidy threading job and recrown. My trials and tribulations didnt end there though. I had a nice light little Atec mod on her now, 22 cal and seemed just the job to keep the weight right down. First foray out in the dark, and my shot was accompanied by a resounding CLANK! bother, had I clipped the metal water trough just right of my target?? Thankfully no water issueing forth from it, so hopefully not.
The next shot was pretty loud, as in unmoderated loud. Uh oh! off home and it turns out the guts of the mod and end cap had gone forth into the long grass like a grenade launcher. I foolishly thought that a rimfire only mod would be marked up as such, but beware not all are. Luckily nothing hurt bar my feelings, after waiting for a variation to come have now upgraded to an Atec H2. Its bigger of course, and a little bit heavier but my lord its transformed the noise of the Hornet. I have got an adapter now on my 204, and that is the quietest it has ever been. Adapters are reasonably priced too, around £30. Very pleased, and the Hornet is shooting great, have dropped several fox now.
Alls well that ends well.
