Following a particularly stupid attempt to free a strap on a feeder which involved rotating the knife handle and pushing down with the knife, my friend’s (ahem) hand travelled down the handle and slid half the length of the blade which of course is the serrated part (what else?) leading to a very nasty deep cut to (err) my friend’s. trigger finger (where else?). That and the blood thinners he (getting silly) is on led to quite a passable imitation of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre with this person in the starring role. Needless to say this happened half a mile down a narrow country track and well away from the nearest habitation (shocker!). He (honest) thought one (that’s better) had severed a tendon initially but said finger was still answering commands from slightly panicked neurons so the very immediate issue was really about blood or more accurately the loss of same. By a stroke of good fortune only 2 weeks earlier someone had replaced their (tenuous) very elderly car First Aid kit with a decent belt pouch crammed full of essential packages, lotions and potions from a no longer required substantial sailing First Aid grip. That said it was fun trying to open the zip, extract the padded bandage, tear the paper apart and wrap same around the crimson fountain with only one good flipper operational whilst at the same time holding the other very dodgy flipper skywards. The availability of this kit undoubtedly saved my friend quite a lot of grief and a fair amount of “claret” too so the point of this somewhat embarrassing tale is to remind all stalkers to carry a similar kit and to keep it updated. If you don’t have one - get one - I really do not know what else I, sorry my friend, could have used on this occasion.
