First dog advice

Do not let anyone near it with one of those stupid toys designed to engage in a tug of war, it may seem obvious to us but at some point you may need to ask someone else to look after it for a short while, and that short while could ruin it for life.

Morning all, getting my first pup this weekend. He’s a lab just after a little advice for do and don’ts. He’s going to be a family pet but also trained for rough shooting flushing and retrieving birds and retrieving rabbits.

Don’t want him to pick up hard to brake habits by giving him the wrong toys or make training harder when he’s older

Like I said first dog of my own and first time trainer

Thanks for any input
Must wondering how you are getting along with the pup?

Take the training slow, then slowdown again seen so many dogs ruinned by not getting the basic foundations of steadyness nailed before they rush onto the "exciting" stuff like retriveing dummys and getting them out on a shoot and they end up with a dog that just runs around doing its own thing whilst they make excuses for it.
