First roebuck of 2023

After the many blanks I was out yesterday morning to hopefully get one of the roebucks that I've seen on my previous outings. The weather was awful but got to the farm early and parked up in the yard instead of driving down as the ground d was just far to soft.

Got into the highseat and waited, the rain started off light and got heavier and heavier. I stayed in the seat and couldn't only see rabbits for an hour or so. The wind was in my favour so I decided to head up the field to see if anything was moving further up. I'd all but given up when I spotted a brown shape laying down opposite me. A doe...I scanned looking for a buck and all of a sudden a head popped up and shaked. They were facing me on the edge of the last field which offered little to no cover. I worked up a hedge behind me and saw another 2 bucks much closer. Heads looked decent on them though still on velvet, but I decided to leave them for the 1st I saw due to him having half an antler missing, so I thought if I don't take him he might cause others to much grief during the rut.

Back down the hedgerow, under the hedge and into the ditch to sneak closer. I then used the tram lines to get closer still as the buck had bedded down facing away. The doe was feeding in the hedge but every now and again would turn a look my way so me and Major stayed low until I thought we may have pushed our luck to much. Got to about 125/150y didn't measure but I started at 220 so was happy. He stood up and was feeding towards the boundry so took my chance and he dropped disappearing unto the barley. Major looked at me and we began the track after a couple of minutes. The doe disappeared without alarm and we found the buck. Major's first time being next to when shooting and first track.

Thats me done for a couple of months while we welcome the new baby soon

Well played.

Bonnie (and unusual dog) to have with you on a morning out.

I have ESS so I wouldn't actually know what it's like to have dog with you...🙄

I take it that 'hanger' is one from @Tim.243? If so, it seems to work terribly well.

Good luck with the new addition into your life.

Thank you, having him with me has been a bit of test of the the field craft which I've very much enjoyed

Yep that's one of @Tim.243 hangers, I've also used that same one for a fallow before and worked equally as well
