Floor plate magazines

Hmmm. One of the perils of having a couple of Remmy 700s with identical stocks but in .222 and .308 - ask me how I know that the bolts fit but for some stupid reason nothing else does - especially painful after a 60 mile each way trip to the range…….!

You will have to do something to the bolt / -action on one - cerakote in pink maybe??? 😉.
All of mine are different actions - just didn’t pick it up! 🙄

Fortunately in my case the farm is only 10 mins away, but still buggers up your timing if you wanted to be in position before sunrise!!
If you're going to leave the bolt anywhere, leave it in the rifle!
I used to but Herts police ask that all removable bolts are stored away from the rifles, hence the cock up!!

Wouldn't recommend it, you need sufficient spring tension to push the rounds upwards to ensure consistent feeding.
Shorter spring could mean that the last round or two in the mag wouldn't be picked up by the bolt.
Thats that answered then lol
Thanks bud

My preference is a floor plate for stalking. It’s one less thing to forget and doesn’t rattle. My current custom 308 has one and so will my new one. The new one uses the Hawkins precision M5 pattern floor plate so I can swap out for a M5 DBM if I wanted to fit the likes of culling.

That being said, the Sako 85 mag takes some beating in my view. Just a shame about the mount setup and poor synthetic stocks.

President Biden: “ If you can’t get the deer in 3 shots, you shouldn’t be hunting"
In a stalking scenario that sums it up, I carry three crackers daily as I`m not on a cull mission. I have to laugh at some blokes here that carry a full clip, plus ten in hip pouch and another 10 in daypack. We can walk all day everyday and see not even one target.

All std plastic stocks are rubbish imho ! Laminate , composite or good old walnut for me Pillar bedded

Sorry for the hijack but i had a thought (it may be a dumb one)
I have a floorplate in my Rem700 which is my foxing rifle.
Can the internal spring be shortened to allow more rounds?
Hmmm. Being a clockwork type spring in a “Z” shape it would be difficult and/or not worth the bother.

My Mod 70 7mm RM sat out in the sun for a pic today. When the `smith rebarrelled a dozen years ago he asked "now do you want me to reblue" Me.... 'wtf for mate, I will only wear it off again lol'

The floorplate has never let me down, never jacked itself open and has never been a pita like some of the box mags.

43 year floorplate.webp

The only time i have seen one in the field was a friend with a remington rifle i think.
He released the floor plate accidentally and all the rounds in deep heather in scotland. I dont think he found any of the ammo!
