Just finished foxing around some lambing fields mixed with some rain spells the longest bit of rain was an hour then it stopped and the breeze dropped a wee bit on 3 occasions you could set your watch on the foxes appearing between 16 and 18 mins after the rain ceased, they weren’t just laying up on the edge of the wood they appeared from the centre of the wood in the thermal as if they’ve been and had a Kip then resumed the foraging, it really stood out tonight, the rain stretched the night out but a good result they don’t like the 204 by the way

Interesting and again the thermal opens yours eyes

I have however shot them in absolute downpours and thought that maybe they use this to cover their noise and smell a little when hunting

I wonder if its more on the pressure they are under to hunt eg - if they have cubs or dependents its all the time - if the larder is full or they have already fed they can relax a bit ?

Yep i was watching one 2 fields away, it covered the field exactly the same as they do when on a fresh cut hay field after the mice, up and down up and down until it has covered the whole field, then as if by order up comes the nose and they strike off in another direction as if they say thats done i have another spot to go to right now on the hidden list of visit points, hour later its appears in another field a bit nearer 🤞 To you💥

I've noticed over the years that whilst you can occasionally get onto a fox in heavy rain it's for more likely to be a little after the rain subsides that you see them out and about. Like any sensible animal they tend to lay up somewhere sheltered and (if possible) dry when it's hissing down. These days I tend to follow their example and stay home when it's a foul wet night, saving my energies for when I'm more likely to see them out, and I'm less likely to end up drenched.
Oh and ... No. They really don't like the .204 do they ? ;)
