At least you shot what you expected and didn’t disappoint yourselfWell I went out last night amongst the snow flurries and as expected saw no foxes. Can someone please drop me some off to play with![]()

Would that be "Running with the fox" by David Macdonald? If so, it's an extremely interesting insight into the life of foxes.Ive read a book on foxing in and around Oxford, they tagged and followed foxes for up to 20 miles a night.
Not trying to wind you up foxhunter, but I help a chap out with his fox “problem” in his semi rural garden that I’d estimate to be about 3 acres, with wild areas to the sides and end - not every year, but most. One evening last year and within the space of about 40 minutes I’d shot 13 and because I’d seen more I went back the following day and shot another 8!Jesus I wouldnt see 12 foxes if I was out lamping for every night for a fortnightI am jealous of you guys as I love fox shooting even more so than stalking. As for town foxes I have lived round here for 50 years and only ever seen 1 fox .....such a spectacle I nearly crashed the car. Are there any kind gents with huge numbers that would allow me to tag along once harvest is finished ......really appreciate it , dont want to shoot just be part of a big night

21 in 2 nights is some going. Would take 6 months to get that up here. I went foxing in Essex once near Orsett , first call switched lamp on and there was 4 foxes in he field. Wish we had your numbers ....soul destroying at times up here. Out again tonight but not holding my breath. Not trying to wind you up foxhunter, but I help a chap out with his fox “problem” in his semi rural garden that I’d estimate to be about 3 acres, with wild areas to the sides and end - not every year, but most. Whilst on the topic of foxes and territories etc, and loosely related, I woke one night (bins were out for collection the following day) a couple of years back to hear the most sickening sound which went on for about 10 minutes. It was a large (presumably) dog fox which had grabbed a smaller one by the throat and was shaking it very hard. The noise was the smaller ones head hitting a wall and the pavement. I got up and chased the larger one off, but had to dispatch the smaller one as it was in a very bad way.
Foxhunter do you have a thermal spotter , if not try and borrow one, leave the gun at home and just go for a nice steady quite walk along the hedges and shadows , its amazing what is out there.21 in 2 nights is some going. This is very interesting Crowe, showing very distinct territories & patrol. routes, thanks. Once again the GCT doing intelligent scientific analysis.Red fox GPS tracking - Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust

Link to a study on the topic by the game and wildlife trust. I’m not sure if the final report is available yet (I couldn’t find it), but it’d be a fascinating read when done
I dont have one but my mate has one and I used to use one for years but it makes no difference. If they arent there you cant see them even with thermal. You guys with plenty of foxes would probably pack in if you had to go foxing up here as it's pretty dire.Foxhunter do you have a thermal spotter , if not try and borrow one, leave the gun at home and just go for a nice steady quite walk along the hedges and shadows , its amazing what is out there.
Nothing to nurture and we dont get any assistance from drop offs like you lot@foxhunter
I’ve told you before mate ,there’s a skill to nurturing foxes from year to year which you havnt mastered![]()
Ive been out twice a week since the start of the year and shot 7 off two permissions. Many nights i've blanked but its better than watching TV.21 in 2 nights is some going. Yep , you know what its like up North. I don't mind being out and blanking just wish we had more. Out again tonight but taking the .22 as well to shoot some bunnies.Ive been out twice a week since the start of the year and shot 7 off two permissions.
