Wanted: Foxing observation

shooter

Well-Known Member
Hi all,

I want to observe someone experienced fox shooting.

Please note that this is not a request to shoot/ guided foxing and i shall not be bringing my rifle or shotgun (hoping this will make it easier for people to reply) and only wish to observe, learn.
Happy to assist as per the shooters request (for eg you keep sitting in the truck while i run to retrieve the fox, or however you deem necessary).
I do not wish to record/take selfies etc. This is not for media but for my learning.

I may have questions to ask re: learning about foxing but if you wish, i am happy not to ask anything and only observe.

Any game keeper doing fox control or anyone else doing vermin control would be perfect.

I am happy to drive but would prefer to be in Norfolk/ Suffolk region.

I am non smoker, happy to come in PPE (mask gloves).
Willing to wait till whatever lockdown easing condition makes it comfortable for you to take me on.
Available most nights but will ideally need to leave in time for a brief rest and start work at 0900.

Thanks.

I would be happy for you to tag along on a night out on the foxes. I'm in hearts, I'm sure you will find some one closer to home. Pm me if your ever around my neck of the woods. Good luck

this person's attitude to fox control is a breath of fresh air to me I get tired of sorting out other people's mistakes through lack of experience!
There are far to many people who buy a gun some NV and a caller and think they are a fox man it takes years of practice and mestakes to get proficient
at it sorry about the rant but it is one of my pet hates😣

Fair play to you not wanting to rush in and just start blasting away, I would happily take you out but Wiltshire is going to be one heck of a drive for a nights foxing for you. Good luck though

Dear all,
Thanks a lot for your replies.
I have been told off for posting this daft request and was told that no one would reply.

I appreciate all the replies from my heart.
I have also been contacted by 1 member close to where i live. Lets see if that gets finalised.

and dear @Sika98k I do want to pop over to wicklow; its my dream. The quarry may be slightly larger than a fox though ;) .
Whenever the stars along re: that dream trip, I will contact you with questions. And then we might go out drinking and/or foxing.

Good on you shooter..ignore the nay sayers and go for it..no harm in what you propose to learn more etc....as well as learning on the job there is much to learn from the web and from very well written books by Robert Bucknell and Dr Patrick Hook who are both foxers of the highest order and have shared their hard earned knowledge to improve fellow foxers understanding of what can be a difficult subject to master...Hugh.

More than happy for you to come out with me, unsure of where you are in Norfolk, but kings lynn is a hour and 30 from me. I’m in Northamptonshire.

i went out with a good mate of mine for the best part of three years (starting my apprenticeship)
in that time i went from watching, to lamping for him and in the end thermal spotting for him.
its a bit strange walking next to or behind someone in the dark i must admit, but once a set of eyes were picked up
i could see more of what was happening. soon being the lamper had its advantages as we worked the hedge rows and fields and getting to know his permission inside out.
we worked well as a team using hand signals and the odd whisper once a fox was spotted
i learnt a lot from doing what i was doing
but since ive started shooting foxes myself ive learnt even more about them and there habits,
and as ive said in other threads on this site i have never stopped learning and dont think i ever will

Im too far away to take you out, but I have a copy of Patrick Hooks' book 'A foxers year' which you can have, if you want it?
PM me your address, I will get it from my locker at work, and post it off sometime over the next week or two.
It is well written and a useful read to give you a good headstart.
