Just a thought , what would stop someone giving a much higher reading to their supplier than it is currently and then paying for future gas and electricity at the rates before they go up and then correct it later down the line ?.![]()
Glad I haven't gone down that route !Ok for some but smart meters throw a spanner in the mix.
We have North Sea gas, the Russians can't affect our prices much. Now who said that?
France gets most of their electricity from Nuclear, about 75% the highest in the world, and most of their gas is a different type as it comes in bottles. It has been quoted, possibly incorrectly, that prices for UK energy (gas electricity) will increase by 205%. In France, potentially at the forefront of the European gas 'crisis' with Germany - same increase 8%.
Someone is lying or choosing to make ludicrous profit and I. for one of about 30Million, would like to know which, why and who can make this equitable ??
Not completely true. Yes, Green folks would rather that hydrocarbons were left in the ground but they have had limited success in stopping production so far. The two truths are: North Sea gas and oil is running out, with production gradually dropping; and the gas produced from the North Sea is traded internationally because there is a gas interconnector between the UK and the continent. Therefore UK gas prices are affected by what is happening elsewhere. But we've stopped extracting our own from the North Sea because Boris Johnson's wife and the Greens who are propping up Nicola Sturgeon don't like it. So instead, as we're still overwhelmingly reliant on gas for energy, we buy it at a premium from the Norwegians who extract it form the North Sea...
Such is the mentality of the people who govern this country.
I saw this question in I think the Times this week. The answer surprised me but then again didn'tMy electricity trebled
And I have a 3.9kw /16x panels on the roof …. Couple that with I’m told we supply you green renewables energy ….
So WHY are my prices trebled ?
Woman on phone couldn’t answer …
I lived in France from 2002-2006 and 2015-2019. There the price per unit of electricity and per unit of gas is capped by law. Additionally despite the windfarms you see from the Eurostar a full 90% plus of French electricity is generated by nuclear power. It has been quoted, possibly incorrectly, that prices for UK energy (gas electricity) will increase by 205%. In France, potentially at the forefront of the European gas 'crisis' with Germany - same increase 8%.

There's enough gas in the North Sea that we can buy it from Norway. While it's there we should be using our own. But the UK has vast untapped onshore gas reserves. We need to build a nationwide grid of nuclear power stations and small modular reactors as well, and in the meantime, get fracking. We could get all our power from wind turbines, tidal barrages and solar arrays of course, but we'll have to get rid of about 40 million of our surplus population first. Since there is not a single mainstream party in the UK that isn't committed to pushing the population past 100 million as quickly as possible and expanding it further beyond that without limit, we'd better frack the gas and build the nuclear reactors. It isn't worth worrying about the environmental impact because within our children's lifetime, this nation will be an island city anyway with no green space left and the majority of our food imported. Not completely true. That would depend if the supplier was also a “manufacturer” and both businesses are making profit. Also what is in their “running costs”?View attachment 270824
Are you sure energy suppliers are making massive profits?
the six biggest energy suppliers (that supply 98% of UK customers) do not extract oil or gas, they just supply it to customers having bought it on the wholesale market. They pay National Grid for the use of the electricity lines etc. Im guessing this will be a large part of their running costs, but also hedging prices, issuing statements and chasing bad debts, employing call staff. The wholesale price of electricity has gone up all over Europe because a lot of it is produced by burning gas and Putin is restricting the supply of gas. That would depend if the supplier was also a “manufacturer” and both businesses are making profit. Also what is in their “running costs”?
