GL Consultation: LINK

Scaring does not work other than temporarily at best. Waiting to shoot when they are on crop or attacking animals etc wont work. You need tomintercept flight lines and roost points and that is often NOT where they land to feed which can be different AM/PM or ever day.
Even if every person in the Uk shot certain pests on a regular basis... they will not dent numbers such as the grey squirrel which we are now stuck with forever as well as parakeets which have probably passed the point of no return. It is pointless thinking sitting in a orchard is going to have any effect on numbers ever.
The cost to the nation is massive at a time we are argui g we do not have sufficient food to feed ourselves now let alone as time passes.
The battle is 247 365.... limiting breeding seasons will just not control numbers. The existing licence was bad enough. It needed less restriction for certain pest species not more. The General Licence is an effective tool that can be used to deal with pest species and if necessary... species can be added like parakeets or removed like starlings and the natural populations edd and flow. Starlings did not reduce dure to shooting.....that was environmental and loss of habitat. Parakeets on the other hand are invasive and are breeding out of control and have already passed the point of no return. Shooters are not stupid or trigger happy. They know what needs to be done and the vast majotlrity respond to circumstances in the area they shoot. For example..... in my areas... jays are very few and far between so I dont generally remove them unless it is a very densly populated song bird area.
There are many more angles of attack here. But we ALL HAVE TO EXTRACT OUR FINGERS AND MAKE DEFRA AWARE this is a huge cock up and they need to sort it and damned quick.
The GL need to be made more flexible not more restrictive. Its stupidity at its core level.

You've written to them then with evidence?

Mick Millar said "You just click 'next' - try a different browser." You may also need to try a different server/provider, it seems that the links to defra response, gl downloads, BASC and Fieldsports response pages are being blocked by your server/provider, heard that about 2 providers so far - Error 404 page not found. Are the numpties sabotaging the collection of evidence?

In addition to responding directly to DEFRA and via the BASC survey (both done), there's now a survey set up by Fieldsports Channel TV (Survey : Questions).

FSCTV want to emphasise the value of the enjoyment to be had from carrying out activities under the old GLs.

The survey doesn't take long to complete, especially if you skip the second half (which is all market research for FSCTV's shiny new website), and provides a way to communicate positively what our sport means to us.

As a media platform FSCTV understand that successful mass communication depends on establishing emotional engagement, so that's what they want from us: not just by by us evoking the distressing scenes of empty nests, eyeless lambs, denuded fields and fouled fodder resulting from the irresponsible revocation of the old GLs, abut also by us expressing our feeling for the natural world, our love of the outdoors, our sense of belonging within a rural community, even the sense of freedom we enjoy at being able to step for a few hours away from the red tape in which life in the UK has become so entangled, etc.
