I have been made aware of the waste that goes in my bin every day, & have changed my shopping habits. Meanwhile 39 BILLION empty Coke bottles are swilling round the world, that's just one company, one product, one massive profit, one of the problems. But the problems are all connected, profit over concern. Greta is quite rightly concerned, so am I.

I think we are at the point of no return now with global warming and think the best we can do now is to start prepping for more extreme weather, rising costs of energy, food, living, travel etc.

Preparing for events is sensible. The ‘point of no return’- very subjective aka THE END OF THE WORLD IS NIGH! From time immemorial zealots have been using human psychology to preach similar.

The elephant in the room that the politicians are not addressing is that there are too many people on the planet.

Sorry - but this is simply not true. And circulating this sort of misinformation creates a real risk of underestimating the very real threat caused by climate change and the steps that will need to be taken to combat it.

The eruption in 1980 of Mt St Helen's is estimated to have released around 10 million tonnes of CO2 into the Earth's atmosphere over the course of aprox. 10 hours. Currently the same amount of CO2 (10 million tonnes) is generated by human activity in under 3 hours. Overall volcanic eruptions account for a fraction of the CO2 released into the Earth's atmosphere when compared to human activity. This is not a state secret. It well documented and not in dispute. To suggest otherwise is just daft.

I think the aggressive language being directed at Greta Thunberg (here and elsewhere) only makes the people using it look shrill, weird and angry. Agree with her or disagree with her about climate change. But don't call her (or her parents!) c*nts. What does that achieve other than making the people who do so look like aggressive playground bullies? While I am sure she is used to it and, I hope, couldn't care less about the people who attack her in these terms, surely, those who disagree with her should attack the ideas she is putting forward rather than the young woman expressing them.

Play the ball not the man. Especially if the man is actually a young woman. Otherwise you just look like a thug trying to shout down ideas with which you disagree .

And if you are going to engage with the argument, you will have to do a lot better than putting it all down to volcanoes.

I think you need to constantly set the time humans have been on the earth bs oceans and volcanos….now, yes, the sinks have been able to keep up and our contribution has upset the balance but oceans and volcanos have been producing co2 for waaaay longer than humans and therefore have put more out.,,the problem we have is we produce it faster in a shorter time.

Although I don’t see many climate nuts moaning about the moss and peat removal projects..and I have read these are more effective sinks than rainforests for carbon capture.

If she was my daughter I would have thought very carefully about the exposure she was likely to receive when she entered the public arena , and the possible abuse.
Greta was born into a privileged family , with a rather fame hungry mother, to me its unlikely that she simply decided one day to fight climate change off her own back , her selective mutism and low spectrum autism, are not the best oratory tools.
Its fairly clear she is driven by her elders, her parents , and her handler/speech writer Luisa-Marie Neubauer , a political activist who has done much work with the soros and gates controlled One foundation.
Greta rarely gives one on one interviews , mainly because , without a speech prepared for her , she really doesnt know what shes talking about, she simply isnt equipped to debate the subject.

Youre really talking about a completely unrelated subject, Greta has spoken about plastics ect in passing , but its not really responsible for climate change.
It is however, a serious problem, one , unlike a 1 degree C temperature rise in 150 years, is fairly obvious in its effects.

Its a fact confirmed by NASA , the planet is greener, and many scientists believe that any excess CO2 is taken up by plant growth.

Heres another one , for all the attendees bleating about how its 'One minute to midnight' and our own Boris talking of an 'existential threat' , are they (besides lining us up for higher taxation and less freedom) doing anything at all economically to combat this apocalypse ?
Like cancelling the massive white elephant of HS2 and building a nuclear power station with the money ? You know , with OUR money , not French money , or Chinese steel ?
How about investment into tidal power production , better wind turbines ? We are an island in the path of the gulf stream perfectly placed for it.

Why does the US even attend , its efforts to reduce energy consumption are pitiful, China also couldnt care less. Both are re arming , spending billions on military tech that with a little better diplomacy , simply wouldnt be needed ?
If they arent all bare faced liars, and the world really is facing a crisis (which I highly doubt) then why arent they taking real steps to 'save' us ?

Makes you wonder if like all these asteroid disaster movies, would the world really come together to face a real global threat ?
Or is this particular global threat not serious enough ?

If you mean food resources then generally speaking , the world is quite capable of feeding itself, and at least 50 % more, in the next 20 -30 years , we shall find out, unless covid 25 makes me a liar !

North America (the US and Canada) , if farmed properly could likely feed the world on its own if needs be, it wouldnt be the most interesting diet, but it would ward off starvation.
So why do people in African countries ect end up in Famine and starvation ? Is Africa as a continent not capable of feeding its populace ? Of course it is , but like North America feeding the world, it chooses not to , for political or economic reasons.
Poor farming practices, war or cultural issues are the real drivers , whilst over population means more mouths to feed, more hands tend , normally to boost the labour force necessary to produce food.
Ethiopia ect in the 70s and 80s never seemed to be out of famine and starvation , yet a good deal of the country is not an arid desert, but fairly water rich , and cool in the higher mountainous areas.

You often hear of Zimbabwe and SA being the bread basket of Africa, the land is literally perfectly adequate to feed the continent , thats when its managed properly, but hey , thats another story...

The Irish potato famine in the 1840s , was believe it or not , NOT caused by the English starving the Irish to death deliberately (Fair hill will be along shortly to correct me on that) but principally , poor farming practice, based on the insistence of growing one crop , they actually knew the blight was coming 5 years before , but did nothing to diversify (the whole of Europe had the blight)
It didnt help that the population of Ireland at the time was 8 million, 2 million more than it is now.
There are extenuating issues of how the land was managed by the landlords and agents, but if there were no tenants , because they had been deliberately starved to death , theres also no rents being paid.
The fact is , if the land had been used right, it should never have happened.

In summary, its not a huge point, but food wise, the world could be fed with no issues.
If they all want to eat steak, maybe not, or if they all want a big house with internet and a Ferrari outside , then no.
But nobody need starve, the fact that people do, is a lot more of a crisis than getting to net zero carbon (Whatever that even means )
