Guided stalking in West Berkshire

Hi Kevin

It doesnt seem like five minutes ago that we were paying an average of £40 a stalk so a day and maybe a couple of cull animals was £80 all in
Then it was £50 a stalk and currently the average seems to be £70..

Taking an average days stalking(2 outings) to £140 inc animals plus your B+B and fuel costs..

The way you have offered your stalking if you were fortunate to take a deer in the morning and afternoon the days stalking would cost £170

Im rapidly running out of saleable items to fund my stalking and wonder how long it will be before the average costs hit a new high..

Getting a bit like watching the cost of fuel

Anyway its your offer and good luck :-D

not sure what the fuss is about the cost of stalking. I am in a syndicate which I pay a years feel and keep the deer.. but there are hard to find on the syndicate land and it take years to know the ares they live and move in.. so I also pay for accompanied stalking were I hope the stalker knows the area's and movement of the deer on there land as they are out most days and most of the time and also get feedback from workers and farmer on the land.. I have paid a fixed fee up to 2 cull animals on some outings an also a fee for the outings plus a shot fee.. let me tell you I prefer a outing and shot fee separate like Kevin offer.. say I book to stalks morning and aftenoon Kevin would cost me £90 if I do not take a shot.. which is better than paying to to stalks at £85 or £100 i.e could a cost £200 and you got home with 2 blanks.!! I have been there and believe me I love the day out and don't have to shot a deer to enjoy my outing but £200 for a walk is a large amount for anyone..

Folks -

Just a test to see if I can master this picture embedding thing.

Chap in the pic is a Belgian who visited Inholmes in the spring this year to shoot his first muntjac. He went on to take a nice mature animal in the evening on the same day.

As you can see, Inholmes does Bluebells rather well. The sprig of inflorescence in the beast's mouth is a respectful Continental touch.

Cull/trophy fees

I treat my stalking as a buisness and as such the costs have to reflect this
for example to have the insurance to take clients out costs in excess of £500 per year this covers the estates and myself from claims by clients falling out of high seats etc and being carried in my vehicle for which you need buisness cover (even if you get a waiver from the client it is not enough and BASC etc does not cover the stalker only the client).
High seats of which I have about 30 at £150-200 each, petrol used to both get to and around the stalking area £20-30 per day cost and maintenence of chillers and other equipment.
And on top of all this is the stalking rents which due to demand have increased out of recognition in the last few years due to demand and supply. The days of giving a bottle of Scotch especially in the South of England have largely ended and you either now enter into partnership with the estates or have to pay for the rights.
I appreciate that some people feel ripped off and in some cases they are but I think £150 per day without any added extras for Doe shooting is about right remember also that unless you are silly and greedy that you also have to declare your income to Mr Brown and he also likes his cut so you probably end up with about £80 for a days work.
This is why I prefer to mostly shoot my own Does as I would hope to increase the venison harvest and reach the cull targets set in as short as time as possible.
Just my pennys worth and best wishes to all

Hi Terry

Ive just got back from a weekend stalking and on the evening we discussed the recent posts regarding costs etc

Much of what you say is right and i respect the costs of all that are offering stalking..

This being KevinFs offer he has done extremely well sending five guests out of five home with one in the bag each..

Not something i have seen or heard of many stalkers achieving with their clients

So well done Kevin .. Im sure the guys going home are not feeling badly done by

We have had competent guests which helps a lot, but thanks. Appreciated.

TerryC is right. All you guys moaning about costs of stalking - why don't you go out and rent a ground yourself! Then YOU will find out the hard way about overheads, quads, 4x4 , larder, high seats. Some estates are charging £4 or even more per acre for stalking rent - even at £2 per acres it's not a snip.
I've seen other posters resenting fees by saying the stalker is making a living out of them. Yes, I'm an agent so I take a cut as well - believe it or not I don't just sit on my a**e and expect folk to book - I have to visit and check out grounds, advertise , make sure everything goes OK etc. I reckon I create & maintain around the equivalent of 12-14 full time jobs in rural areas which would not happen if I did not market the stalking & shooting I sell.
Quit your moaning. Stop bleating about how poor you are and how hard up you are and how you only want to pay b***** all for your stalking.
I used to go and help with the haymaking to get my (free) shooting and I know of one guy who does all the mole control (properly with all the correct paperwork etc. ) and he gets his stalking for 'nothing' .
Rant over. Flak jacket and hard helmet on and waiting for the flaming response......

i surpose if everyone stuck together and refused to pay the estates silly money per acre they would have to drop the price  but then again that would never happen in this game, because there is allways someone trying to take your land from under your nose by offering more money,so thats why its gone up so much because theres allways more money in the next wallet which comes knocking at the door.thats how i see it.

fair is fair. i charge a fair amount for what i do (not stalking), some people would even say that we are expensive. however, most people see the value in what we do, rather than the costs and refer there family, friends and colleagues.
can't see why people get there nose put out by how much the stalkers who offer guided hunting on this site choose to charge. if its too much, or there clients don't see the value they won't last long, as if they rip people off people are soon going to know.
as for it costing more know than the good old days, c'est la vie.
p.s. I have never stalked with the people involved in this thread but may do if i continue to read good things.
