Gun safe/cabinet in an outbuilding.

Folks,

has anyone got their gun cabinet or safe in an outbuilding? Was there any specific requirements the FEO insisted on? I had a look at the firearms security handbook and it states “in the case of outbuildings or garages where the main building is not alarmed, consideration should be given for a stand alone monitored alarm”...

Would a motion detecting camera linked to mobile phone cover this?

the outbuilding in question will have three modern standard locked doors, security lights, and a motion detecting camera. And the guns would be in a modern cabinet, although I notice they quote doors to BS3621 (2016), does anyone know if there is a simple way of telling if doors are to this standard? The exit door is a modern UPVC so I would think meets this.

also, what constitutes a regularly occupied building?? In it monthly, weekly, daily?

regards,
Gixer

Hiya

Yes I have my cabinets out there.
Nothing asked for.
Would it make a difference? probably not as battery operated tools soon render access easy, or once in tools using 240v...........
I understand the arrangements have to take into account the area and crime rate etc. - can access be got to a removed building where naer-do-goods can work on entry unseen etc.

Open the door and have a look at the faceplate of the lock. There should be a British Standards kitemark and the relevant standard stamped on it that should tell you :thumb:

My brother in law put his cabinet in his garage ... the feo insisted he removed a part of it ie the forend and hid it separately in the house.. the damascus greener I gave him didnt fare too well ... over a 100 years and mint condition .. 3 months with him rusty junk .. the garage flood didnt help !

I was told as long as an alarm fitted no issues

A guy i work with has just moved his guns into an out building, we built a stud wall lined bothsides with plywood, a steel door alarmed into the building, a steel door alarmed into the gun room a security camera attatched to his phone and the guns are to be on a rack and steel cable system. Being in aberdeenshire i imagine we both have the same FAO and he was more than happy with that for the security

I was told absolutely not when I asked a few years ago and I know of someone else who was made to stop using a very nice Victorian gunroom as it was detached from his house. I do know of someone who keeps their guns in a building away from their house, but it has no windows, steel plate on the walls, a steel door and is alarmed. With guns in a cabinet inside this room. I suppose like many things different areas have different rules

I do remember a case a few years ago when someone stripped the roof of a steel lined gunroom and emptied it through the roof
