Gun Safe Installation

I have seen a very determined attack at a customers house , they failed ! from good fitting .
The Guidance notes state any gaps should be filled and extra fittings should be considered .
If your guns are taken there will be an investigation into if your security was in anyway at fault !

Chem fix all day long. best tip i can pass on is borrow a puffer to get the dust out of the holes (red brick is a ducker)
keep the studding out of any dust, make sure they a dry. say 12mm studding use a 14mm drill. clean holes out as above.

I put in 2/3rds of a hole of chem fix also some on the start of thread then turn the studding as you push it in the hole.

I put a piece of tape on the length I want sticking out then you wont get it in the threads... (no different to masking up a car)

Then leave it to cure and leave it some more lol
It’s better to leave 2mm all round for the resin so 12mm stud = 16mm drill bit 👍

I can't agree, its about preventing unauthorised access to your firearms
if your guns are taken , your generally going to have your rights suspended till after the investigation in my experience. Known 3 guys 1. they failed , no problem sort the damage put security back right and you get your ticket back from day one 2. Guns no more court gave him a conviction negligent ( very as it happens) 3. got them back but it went to court

Not sure what you are disagreeing with. The Home Office document on this has a Heading “ Secure Storage” and I have written the gun safe needs to secure and some of the practical ways of doing that, rawbolts and floor screws, and you disagree

The Notes are guidance . The Chief constable of the area gets the final say , though in reality they defer to their FEO team most of the time . I have built gunrooms and its always a case of phone calls " are you happy if ?" , " can i do this instead of that because ... "
Last one i did the HO notes where total pants for the job at hand and asking and doing made things far more secure , the other thing was they where not written by someone with the competence to actually do the job at hand

You are quoting “ stuff”I already know rather than educating me. My post to the OP was a simple one you need to have your cabinate “Secure” at the time of police inspection, Secure is a key word in both the Act and the Guideline, how can anyone disagree with that

I disagree that the purpose of firearms security is to pull the wool over the FEOs eyes during an inspection.
Should you have the misfortune of being burgled firearms are high value items for crooks and you can be damned sure that your cabinet will face more of a challenge than a simple shake. Then, even if plod decide that your security was fine you then have the challenge of convincing your insurers likewise, if of course your guns are covered to start with. Who needs that level of aggravation?

Yes but a 14 will cut big in my experience by the time you have dragged the bit in and out to clear it,
but tell the op please not me as mine is in and fitted.. :tiphat:
I've always found the same. They definitely cut big and I buggered up my ammunition safe install by using the instructed size. Bloody bolts were in there like a wizards sleeve. Ended up ordering bigger bolts to get the chemical anchors to work properly

He came this morning and the guy was absolutely fine, quick glance at it and a wee tug. Then off we went for a chat

He did ask me to do some form of shotgun safety training as I applied for a coterminous. Went to my local clay ground at lunch time and ticked that box. Certificate of attendance sent into the dept.

Some mention of putting an ammo safe on top of the main safe.
It's preferable to site the ammo/bolts safe somewhere else. So any thief has an extra job to find that too (if they even got to your rifle, I wonder how many would realise that it needed a bolt.)

What i am saying is you do not HAVE to work to said guidelines if your FEO team pass it . I know a sheep farmer who has a simply made gun clamp ( no longer in guidance) and like i say i have built gunrooms, Read the notes on them its pretty specific but not always fit for purpose . End of the day it comes down to speaking to the FEO and the team
Some folks have some very clever and secure storage and thankfully the teams nationwide can assess such things on their merits rather than " its not in the notes " , " cant do it " . They can also ask for more security than the std , especially when type or quantity are significant

Perhaps its me taking Guidelines as being" the Guidance notes" Which are a document issued to the different Forces nationally from the Home Office .

You are reading a mass of things that are not I’m my post. I clearly stated use of both raw bolts and additional floor screws to ensure the safe was “ Secure” at the time of inspection. You disparaging refer to the police as “ plod” not a thing I do, they perform a vital function and we need to respect that

Sorry about your lack of a sense of humour. That aside I was making a very serious point about all too many posts on SD along the lines of "what do I have to do to pass the FEOs inspection" when the crux of the matter is that you are trying to prevent the criminal community from stealing your firearms. It is a point that I shall no doubt have to make again in the future!

Maybes ‘a tug’ wasn’t the correct wording. He did give it a pull, but as you can probably tell by the post I did make damn sure it weren’t moving for nobody

The safe is fitted in an area where if they’ve found it they probably knew it was there ( and they wanted it … mega unlikely). There’s no amount of craftsmanship stopping that! Much to my joiners distaste haha!
