Gun Storage Improvement

As part of a general tidy up I thought I would improve the gun rack in my cabinet. Sick of the rifles moving about or slumping to one side and my present rack is positioned too high to hold several of my guns properly. I was going to make a standard wooden rack with felt inserts till I spotted these on Google. Called Bruns Tool Storage System they are designed to hold all your gardening tools. The clever design means the clamp engages as the weight of the tool pulls it down. Holds objects from 0 - 50mm. I checked all the measurements and they seemed to work out so I sent away for the kit. It will hold 6 rifles easily across the width of the cabinet. I could add another rack below that and stagger the clamps across both if I needed more places but 6 was fine at the moment. It came with a metre of aluminium rail and I only needed 45cm. Since the rifles are not suspended all I have to do is swing the arms up to open them and insert the gun and push the arms down so the rubber covers grip the barrel - which they do very solidly as the clamps can hold a weight of 10kgs completely off the ground. If you need extra hold you can put an "O" ring round the tips of the arms as in one of the photos.
I measured all my rifles and shotgun to find how high the barrel and stock came, also any moderators and any iron sights etc to be careful of and determined at the optimum height the rail needed to go. The clamps will hold my mods if needed as they are less than 50mm. I glued a oak batten first across the back of the cabinet and made a clamp to hold it. Then I made sure I loaded the clamps in the rail first and screwed it to the wood. Last job still to do is spray paint the bare metal where I ground the old rack tack welds off.
