Hampshire Based No Experience

Hi All,

Live in Andover, Hampshire. Mid 30's. No real experience.
Did a deer butchery course earlier in the year and really enjoyed it. I've always been curious about hunting and butchery but it feels quite inaccessible. During the course the bloke was telling me about how much deer meat usually goes for and I though man I gotta get some contacts for game meat!

I've looked at the DSC1 and Pre and it looks interesting, genuinely quite keen to book something in.
In the meantime I suppose my main motivation as mentioned above is for game. I'm not currently massively interested in shooting for the sport or fun. I can see that changing after the first few tries though haha. What I'm really interested in is getting some contacts for meat, or people who want a hand as they shoot. Rabbit, pigeon, deer, boar etc. End goal would be to learn how to shoot and butcher for stocking my freezer.

Cheers

Update to this. I have started quite an intense course covering a wide range of survival and bushcraft topics including hide tanning and crafting etc.
So now quite interested in doing my DSC1, I am current looking around with the intention to book something this summer.
Hoping to then be able to go out with groups who want to shoot, and do the carcass processing for them in exchange for a share of the meat and access to other parts of the carcass like hides and bone.

Without wishing to be seen to be grooming a new member for some wicked endeavour, I will reply out of goodwill… it would be worthwhile getting some rifle practice in (local club + air rifle) and, when you feel you are competent, book a stalk with one of the many local guides. There was a very good beginner’s stalk with range and skills session advertised recently local to you (<6hr drive is local for me). Snap it up and good luck 👍

I have no affiliation or experience of the outfitter, but it struck my eye as a sensible endeavour.

I have meat, well I did, but I switched the kin freezer off, so now I am cooking lots of meat. FFS.
You are welcome to come skin and butcher when I get something.

I wished I could give you the name of a great guy who as invited me three times from Hampshire. He was so nice but i have not heard from him.
Since then I have booked with water meadow and got my first munty in Hampshire 👍 .
You are lucky to be in a great area for stalking good luck

I've tried sending this as a direct message but I get a spam warming? Do I write like a spam bot?!

Hi Singer,
Just sending a message to keep myself in touch on that.
The weekend just past I did the second on my year long bushcraft modules and we skinned and butchered another two Muntjac deer. I think if not the next month, then the one after we get on to hide tanning and leather making which I am quite excited for.

I appreciate the sentiment! Where are you based county wise? I go up to Lincolnshire once a month for my bushcraft course so I'm quite happy to travel for certain things. Diesel being nearly £2 a liter is a bit of a sting though isn't it haha

Is the one you posted after this the one you mean from this post? I have family in Somerset so I could absolutely make this work!
Thank you very much!

Still learning to gralloch all types of deer also missed one a few weeks with Watermeadow in Newbury area. great guides. and helpful.
DO Not think that there prices are low for any other reason than to help all stalkers gain experience and deer.
Well worth the money trust me.

Yea have sent a message to them about potentially getting out for a beginner stalk ahead of booking my DSC1, cheers for the recommendation.
Gralloching is removing the stomach and intestines?
