Harkila Pro Hunter Jackets

Hi all
I am thinking of investing in one of the Harkila Pro Hunter Jackets for stalking. There seems to be a bit of a contradictory information available on them. Some say they are the bees knees and others say they are heavy and not worth the money. I have had a Harkila Kodiac jacket and pants for the past 15 years and can find no fault with them. However these have been discontinued and replaced by Pro Hunter range.

I am wondering if any of you who have used them in the past might let me have your unbiased views please. I would hate to spend that large sums on them to find out they are not worth it.

Thanks

I had the original Pro Hunter and it was heavy.
Now I got the Pro Hunter 2 GTX and is nice and light.

this is biased ...for clarity , the bad reviews were when production was swithced to china for a very short period and quality dropped hence a few problem jackets.
this was quickly realised and production was then brought back to the EU, the latest in the range is the pro hunter legacy gtx . if you can source one you will find a good price on the pro hunter endure (previous model) but as the poster above said the pro hunter 2 gtx is lighter ( that must be either the pro hunter move 2 or pro shooting gtx) however...the pro shooting gtx is less suitable for stalking and better off as a peg jkt. they all carry 5 year guarantee so rest assured you will not be disappointed!
Clarks in Navan should have stock to look at ;-)

They are good quality jackets but they are not any good in cold weather for me as they are just not warm enough. I think the material lets the wind through so wind chill becomes a factor. I have two Harkila jackets and they get very little wear in the winter. In the winter I use a heavy Percussion jacket (not there light version) and a Northern Hunting jacket. Both warm enough for what the British winters can throw at us.

Me and a few colleagues have used prohunter products for years now. They are extremely tough, and very rip proof. However they are not waterproof, if you are stalking once a week for a few hours they would probably keep you dry, but for heavy use in sustained rain they just let the water through, earning them the nickname Harleaky! Their stornoway range is more of a favourite of mine, not warm but I use them to layer on top of other clothes, but my 2 stornoway jackets and smocks have been 100% waterproof

i think this is where it depends where your jacket was made and has it ever been washed....nik wax tech wash is bloody great for bringing goretex back to life!

Had a European one which leaked and went back. The Chinese ones were crap. I've now got a Stornoway smock which is fine but as above, not that warm.

I have had a pro hunter coat for 10 years now, have to say it’s the most waterproof coat I’ve had, still dry as a bone. The fit is superb .

Seems to be a mixed bag here. One take away is do not touch the Chinese version. Fair enough I will definitely avoid them. I do have to say the Harkila Kodiac jacket I have worn for the past few years is waterproof enough for my liking but a little short.

I also have to digress slightly and say that nothing I have seen to date compares with the design and warmth and overall usefulness of the old Kamo jackets that were made in the UK ages ago. I really don't know why some firm has not copied the design and made them under a new name.

#1 for Kammo, I had one of their lightweight coats for 20 years which remained water proof.
