Harkila v Kuiu

I have had bad luck with both kuiu and harkila for waterproofness. One client in particular wearing a kuiu katana got really wet after being out in the rain with me for an hour, the jacket was about a month old. I have a couple of harkila Stornaway coats which are far more waterproof than their prohunter ranges which basically turn into a sponge as they age. If you don’t care about looking cool in a branded jacket look at kaiwaka clothing.

Scandi clothing is based on Scandi hunting. That's sitting or standing about in the forest.
We don't have the amount of barbed wire nor bramble or other spikey bushes like in the UK.
Neither do we have in general mud.
I have a Härkila Prohunter jacket and trousers that are excellent quality but far to warm for much of our hunting. I also have a Swedteam outfit that is much lighter that I have used for my trips back to the UK.
For winter driven hunting I use a mish mash of Swazi, Hårkila layers and trousers that are warm and comfortable. Heated vest is a must these days, light and gives great freedom of movement.

i love reading these posts about various brands.....Harkila is heavy! ok so guys you do realise Harkila offer over 20 different jacket styles from wafer thin packable waterproof shells to heavily insulated gore for scandinavian countries....quite honestly if you delve into any brand you will find the correct product for the intended use.
the more you guys buy Kuiu the more likely the gun shops will disappear. we all want to pop in for bullets, guns etc yet we are all happy to support online sales from US.
buy from your local retailer and support those that have supported you for years where you will receive customer service and personable back up should you have an issue!!!!!!!

It was interesting to see Thomas Haugland (THLR) on YouTube a few weeks back saying he'd tried Kuiu and felt the design was poor. I mentioned this to a grouse keeper the other day and he agreed and said he'd gone over to Sitka

I haven't used either brands much but I wouldn't say it's a straight shoot out between those two

My 2 pence for harkila is that it is more designed to sitting still. I have some light weight trousers and their bino harness and both were not that robust the trousers got ripped to shreds and were almost designed to pick up anything when out. The bino harness was bulky and didn’t feel that secure.

My 3 pence is a combination of both brands - as Harkila is very well designed and the fit is really good for me and i have had good experiences with the kuiu Yukon rain gear, gaiters in solid colour.

Glendine.

both wildly overpriced due to marketing spend.

Nomad were ugly but excellent i have a new set which i expect to get ten years plus from.

next im trying varusteleka of finland and bearskin of sweden on the grounds that those boys play for keeps. its a very long walk back to the car.

A lot of the Scandi stuff is extremely well made, but can be optimised for sub zero conditions - so aspects of the design are hard to understand in continuously wet conditions.

southern sweden isn’t that different and Harkila have taken a more luxury country attire turn in recent years. I’m quite taken with their subbbrand sealand although customer support isn’t the best.

Kuiu are style over substance. Thomas @Norway on here was pretty scathing of some of their designs choices and he uses his gear so i take his word as a trusted source.
