Wanted: harris bipod fitting

I have a Browning Maral that i want to fit my Harris bipod to but the fore end wood is too thin underneath to take a traditional stud.
The Maral has a QD sling swivel port but unfortunately it comes out of the front of the fore end in a straight line (same as a Sauer)
A picattini rail would be the answer but how do i get to a rail from the stud port.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated,

very little i'm afraid as the Maral works as a straight pull but it is a sprung mechanism and a large part is right up against the front part of the stock

Hmm shame. I was going to suggest a Accu-shot BT-17 pic rail with two M5 bolts into captive nuts on the inside of the stock. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Let me give you the best advice - don’t fit a Harris bipod. If the wood is that thin, you will either break the stock, split it, or grouping will be all over the place with the harmonics of such a light setup bouncing off the ground. Shoot over a roesack or similar if you must be lying down. I am personally not a fan of crawling around in the mud, when a shot off quad sticks will be more pleasant, result in less panting and heavy breathing from crawling, etc. of course, in some cases like on hill ground, shooting prone is required, but I tend to use my roesack, or more commonly, my binoculars standing up.
Why the British stalker has this need to thrown themselves onto the ground as soon as they see a deer, I don’t know. 🤷‍♂️

I fully understand your reasoning about the bipod problems with the thin wood on the Maral. I do not have a Roesack anymore but use a quad bike its easier.
As for throwing myself on the ground and crawling around, at the ripe old age of 79 its a non starter. I will continue to shoot off the bonnet of my hi lux with bags.
but thank you for your input, I was just hoping someone out there would have a wonderful solution to the problem. I have zeroed off sticks before and it works as long as you can get your elbow against a tree or something similar. thanks anyway

I see, 79 is good! Well done still stalking, and I applaud you for your fine choice in vehicle as well.

On that note, shooting bipod off a vehicle is also a no bueno, they bounce! ESP off the slanted Hilux bonnet. My late father used to bring a collapsible camping table with him when zeroing so he could sit down and have the rifle standing on bags.

There’s no great solution.

As a last resort, the Spartan gunsmith adapter can be fitted quite close to the front of the magazine weld, where there is more wood material, which allows a bipod or tripod fitting, but it’s not at the tip of the stick. Have a look at their website - it’s not cheap, and you have to get it drilled permanently into your stock

i agree with all you say. I have made a shooting bench that collapses and fits in to the car but i used it the other day with the 308 and i was sitting too low and hunched over the rifle.
Two lovely black eyes was the result. I am going again this morning to try the bonnet trick again so i will let you know the results.

Another thing I’ve done, is to put a chair or stool behind the pickup tailgate, to the side, and use the tailgate as a shooting table, but with bags, not a bipod. The height should avoid black eyes!

Hi I bought the versa stud but when it arrived it still needs a bipod stud fitted underneath the fore end of the rifle, so no good i'm afraid. as the pic i posted shows the only connection i have on the fore end is a QD sling swivel hole that comes out of the front of the stock not underneath.
There must be something out there that can do this job surely. anybody know or any ideas please

That’s a tricky one. I see what you're trying to achieve, but I’m not aware of any adapter that extends far enough to be modified for a Harris. My concern is that it would create significant leverage on the fitting in the forend.

Additionally, most QD cups lack an anti-rotation bar, and I don’t see one in your picture. This means any adapter you install would rotate 360 degrees, making the bipod unstable.

yes i agree that it is difficult. I have seen an adapter that fits on the barrel but surely that would bounce the barrel off target even if the rifle was fully bedded? I would contact Browning but to get any answer would probably not come in my lifetime.
