Has anyone tried one of these, and are able to comment on if they are value for money, etc.? also considering a Leupold...

I need...correction, want, something that is cheap, can fit in a sidepocket and which is ok for distances out to around 500 yds..any other suggestions in the sub £200 category are appreciated too

I bought a Bushnell Scout 1000 some time back as it was on offer, I'm pretty sure I paid less than £200 for it and in fact got it for less than they seemed to be selling for on ebay. I figured that if I didn't find it useful I could stick it on ebay and get most of my money back.

It works well for what I do. What I will say is that it is highly unlikely to range much at 1000 yards. I have ranged things in the 800 - 900 yard area with it but these were large white painted gable ends and the like. If you NEED to range 500 yards then I'm not sure that a 600 yard rangefinder will deliver the goods for you. I find my Bushnell is probably at its practical, useful, stalking limit in the 400 - 500 yard range and to be honest I have never needed to range much further with it for stalking.

WAS it one of these ? Bushnell LASER RANGE FINDER Scout 1000 5-1000Yd BNIB!!! | eBay
as you say ok out to about 4-500 yards ! i agree with all the above .not required for the ranges i stalk at ! and i have only had it a few days but it seems ok so far for the money, not a leupold but its £200 cheaper only minor criticism is the readings are dark as opposed to red in the leupold!
