Heavy bipod..... thoughts.....

How’do!

Appreciate this is a site filled mainly with stalkers (in more ways than one ha ha) but I know there’s usually a good spread of advice and opinion for other disciplines.

So, after some great advice from here as well as other sources, I bought a Bergara B14 HMR in .308 for the purposes of doing some long range work - not anything special from a competition etc point of view - more just to please myself and see if I’m still capable!

Ticked off everything on the list now, rifle, scope, rail, mounts, MOD with the exception of a bipod. For the rest of my rifles I have a collection of Harris Bipods which I swap about as and when required - excellent bits of kit and no issues at all. But for the Bergara I’m really after something a little heavier and more substantial. As I don’t really have any serious plans to stalk with the rifle I’m really not that bothered about weight and, well, even if I took it stalking once in a while I’m a big lump anyways so as long as the overall affair is still lighter than a GPMG I probably wouldn’t complain (too much ha ha)

So really just after some thoughts and reviews of what other people have/have used. One thing I’ve noted is that the prices seem to suddenly go a bit crazy - £100 & a bit ish for a Harris and then suddenly £400 because something looks a bit “tactical”.

Ideally a “couple” hundred quid - ideally something that will do at least 12” (or a foot for those of us who are a bit younger 🙄😂) - not at all bothered about it being brand new if something has something lying in the cupboard that would suit and the only other factor is the method of attachment. The Bergara has two sling swivel attachments at the fore end (picture for information) so any bipod would either have to attached via them or via some kind of additional rail or other add on attachment I presume?

As ever - thanks in advance for any advice!

Depending on the stock that can be done yeah. Not an expensive job. Alternatively there are some adapters that fix to a standard stud to offer a small section of rail. Or numerous adapters if you have a UIT rail underneath your stock etc.

Maybe something like this if you can find one could work.
Also easily reversible if you find you don't like it rather than drilling etc
Aye - most appreciated - was just having a bit search and looking at that very one! Certainly seems a better plan than drilling that’s for sure. Cheers!

I've got this for sale at the moment - this and a pic rail on the forend will give you an exceedingly stable bipod for long range.

As @srvet says they're about as solid as a bipod gets.

Cheer Ben - just trying to have a Google to get my head round that. So what actual model is yours? And are you saying it’s actually designed to fit under the rifle but you’ve adapted it to fit above? (Sorry if I’m being thick lol)

It does look the business mind - my only slight reservation is the extended length. I have a couple of Harris 9-13” models and basically only really use them at their full extension - without claiming to be a giant ha ha I am quite a big bloke and when I’ve tried shorter Bipods, by the time I’ve built my prone position the bipod feet are in the air anyways.

BT industries who make the atlas.bipods also make an adaptor that fits on a swivel stud and clamps down a 3" section of picatinny rail also. Will add about .5 - .75" in height but worth a look

Yep - I have replaced the handle shown in one of the pictures with a bolt to allow for a top mounted configuration, but the handle is there and would be included along with that bolt so there would be a choice.
I am more than happy to post pictures configured both ways if that would help?

Yep I completely understand the height point, I will attach a picture of distance from the base to the attachment point for reference.

Hope this helps,

Cheers Ben - I’ll have a measure of how exactly the Harris one actually sits height wise. I mean, it may be cheaper to lose a bit of weight like but I’m not sure my rib cage will shrink much anytime soon 👀😂.

Aye - if you could send a pic of how it would work if I had a pic rail attachment on the existing sling stud that would be great.

That is a sling ring in the picture, but as mine is generally only used on the range, I have reversed mine so it sits further forward.
They are quite pricey, make sure you quote the part number if going via RUAG as it was quite a dance getting the right part from them.

Cheers Eddie - I’ll have a good look. Aye - funny little bits of rail and tiny fittings do seem to command a couple of quid like! But I shall have a good look.

Is the Tier One you refer to this one:

They look like they supply direct but I can’t see the Bergara rail on the site.
