Hello from Slovakia

Hello everyone,

My name is Tomas and I’m joining from the Žilina region in northern Slovakia. Hunting is a big part of life here, with a strong tradition of game management — we have red deer, roe deer, wild boar and mouflon across the forested hills and mountains of the area, so there’s plenty to keep us busy through the seasons.

Most of my stalking is for roe and red deer, with some wild boar, and I take a real interest in following game through the year and in the practical side of rifles and loads. I use two calibres: a 7x64 for red deer and boar, and a 6.5x55 for roe and for longer shots in more open ground — both classic continental rounds that suit our terrain very well.

I came across the forum while reading up on stalking practice and rifle and load discussion in the UK, and I’m looking forward to learning from the members here, comparing how things are done between Slovakia and Britain, and joining in the conversations.

Thanks for having me.

Tom
