Hello!

A bit about me. I've been chasing free range game (large and small) since I was 16 (61 now) and my parents let me wander the wild places on my own. I grew up hunting in British Columbia but migrated to the Yukon about 8 years ago. As my "name" implies, my happy place is above tree line chasing creatures that call the sub/alpine home. My wife hunts, my 3 children hunt, and if my daughter has her way my grandson will hunt.

Over the years I have taken (all DIY) moose, whitetail deer, mule deer, fallow deer, mountain goats, Dall sheep, Stone sheep, black bears, elk. My focus this coming year will again be Dall sheep, with a side of moose and/or caribou until the end of October then on to bison. Next spring when I'm, hopefully, retired I'll make a concerted effort on grizzly bear. I hunt with a bow (recurve), black powder rifle, and modern rifles. I do a little waterfowling and upland but that is more opportunistic rather than targeted. As mentioned, I'm a confirmed back-country hunter and if I see no one in a 2 week trip that, in it's self, is a successful hunt. :) I'm also a licensed Yukon trapper and target primarily lynx, wolverine, coyotes and wolves.

Firearms I own... if I get any more I'll need a third gun safe. I seem to be able to buy but never sell. I have calibres in 223, .22 Savage HP (also known as a 5.6X52R), 30-30, 7-30 waters, .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7-08, .30-06, 45-70, .375 H&H. .22 rim fire. .50 muzzleloader, 12 gauge SGs. My current go to rifles are the Kimber Montana (6.5CM) and Sako Kodiak (.375 H&H)

I stumbled across this forum when I was trying to find out what a DSC-1 was. lol

I've always been interested in how other countries/continents get it done and I'm looking forward to haunting this forum! If any one has any questions about my part of the world please feel free to ask.

cheers,
Richard

Hello Richard and welcome. I was fortunate enough to have had a great holiday in BC . It was a riding holiday riding the trails in the Rockies and I loved the wilderness of it all. You have a great collection of rifles and I see you have a Kimber, I too have a Kimber in 243 it is very accurate and light wieght to carry.
I also have an interest in archery and I will probably be picking your brains.

Hello Richard
Welcome along to the forum. I live near Oxford, England. It’s not just you that can’t bear to sell on firearms, it a disease that I think most of us suffer from.
Kind regards james

Hi Richard,

Welcome.

BC is a beautifull part of the world. Spent a bit of time skiing and travelling in the area. For sure I need to return.

Welcome Richard from Leicestershire. How lucky are you! Hope you stick around as your input and knowledge will be very useful. Would love to get over to Canada to hunt one day so will pick your brains then! Safe hunting.

BC and the Yukon are two of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to and I hope to spend more time in both.
Welcome to the forum, hope you find it enjoyable.

Welcome from Essex UK, dsc1 is the deer stalkers certificate level 1. It is essentially the foundation for understanding deer stalking in the UK I.e seasons, health, safety etc. It's not mandatory to have training here, though some licencing forces will ask for it as proof of competence and safety.

Welcome from Herefordshire. With your impressive hunting CV I don’t think you need to worry about taking your DSC1. 😀

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

With my intro I figured it would dispel any notions of a "troll" at the gate and also (hopefully) get started on the right foot with the mods. ;)

@Stalker1962 ... how far from Montreal to Winnipeg? Correct answer is "who cares". :D That's the flat part of the country!

I think I saw a "random nature pictures" thread in the off topic forum. I'll throw a few countryside photos up if any one is interested.
