Hello, I am a natural hunter and resident in Portugal, I enjoy small game and big game.

I discovered this site through a search for low-weight 30-06 ammunition for roe deer hunting.

Among my personal interests are hunting partridges and woodcocks with a bird dog, but also night-time waits for wild boars, approaching deer, roe deer, etc.
I started hunting like most of us, with my father. My first hunting weapon was a Marlin 1895G in caliber 45-70, with which I hunted my first wild boars, from the age of 14 +-...

I sold this weapon not long ago, included in an exchange for a night vision for wildboar night hunting

I currently hunt with a rifle that also belonged to my father, with which he hunted all his life, a beautiful BSA Majestic Featherweight de Lux, a weapon that, through the hands of its first owner, among all the Iberian fauna, also hunted a lion in Africa. The caliber is 30-06.

I also own a Browning B525 Game, with which I hunt partridges and woodcocks.
I also have a Victor Sarasqueta with side barrels and an Aya in 20 gauge that belonged to my great-grandfather.
They are all operational. I confess that I am a fan of classic weapons, although I don't think some more modern weapons are ugly.

In general, the weight I like most for hunting with the 30-06 is 165 grains, I think it could be the best of both worlds for the caliber, but that's just a personal opinion.
As I hunt more wild boars, I like ammunition with a tense trajectory and, if possible, a core welded to the shirt, but in the absence of ammunition at an attractive price, I sometimes opt for non-welded alternatives.

I started using Geco Plus in 170grains, which I abandoned.

I used Sig Sauer Hunter Elite Tipped 165 grains with great satisfaction, although in really large wild boars at less than 100m the bullet tended to fall apart, separating the core from the jacket.
Still, they are among my favorite ammunition.

I currently use Nosler Accubond 180grains, although I had bad luck with the box I bought, the plastic tips still fall inside the box.

For close-up hunting of roe deer this year I wanted to hunt with lighter ammunition, I saw some offers like Sax, RWS and Geco, with Geco being the cheapest. Hornady also has the 125grain SSP. I'm considering the Geco, although I find little information and few reviews.

I hope I can learn from the content shared here.

Happy hunting.
