Help Please - Sako 75 Deluxe Hinged Floorplate - photo please...

Just in the process of swapping out a detachable box magazine for a hinged floorplate, and wondered if anyone with hinged floorplate model (deluxe) might be able to share a couple of photos of the internal action / how the magazine box retainer is fitted. I think it's just a case of punching out a pin that holds the existing magazine release catch in place and replacing it with the magazine box retainer, but wouldn't mind seeing a photo before I do anything.

Many thanks!

I’m pretty certain you will need the bottom metal assembly for the deluxe complete with floor plate. Unless I’m misunderstanding your post which I might well be.

Yes - I’ve got the bottom metal already - looking to swap over. The existing magazine release catch needs to be replaced with a box magazine retainer. I’ve got all the correct parts, just need to see how a certain bit goes together.

I think you’re right. I have a floor plate for my mag fed 75 and did use it for a bit (mag is back, for now, so can’t offer a photo).

I recall the release catch is removed and you pin in that retainer. I think I found it a bit tight and that removing the trigger unit, and then installing it with the box in place, was the easiest way to do it.

I might go back to it now you mention it…

I think I just need to punch out the pin holding the existing mag release, but just want to double check.

Thank you that makes sense.

Am I right in the pic above?!

Thanks Andy.

Yes I plan to get the whole action barrel and Floorplate cerakoted, just want to check it all goes together and works well before I do so.

Much prefer Floorplate to detachable magazines.

Its .270 so same action length, but I’ll be keeping the detachable mag and bottom metal I’m afraid.

Something else to flag up. Depending on which stock you are using, you may have a problem opening the floor plate. This is because a little tongue of the floor plate pivots upwards as the plate swings down:

I have fitted my action into a GRS Hunter Light laminate, the tongue was fouling on the stock and preventing the plate from opening. There was a slight witness mark on the stock where the tongue had been in contact. I assume this is because the stock is designed with the box magazine in mind. The solution was to mill a 10mm x 5mm scallop into the stock which the tongue pivots into, allowing the plate to open.

Finally got round to replacing the bottom metal. Very straight forward and managed to do so without having to remove the trigger unit. Feeds flawlessly but as @Wapinschaw thought, the stock needs to be modified slightly to accommodate the lip of the floorplate.

Sadly I don’t have access to milling machine, but am also reluctant to attack it with a dremel by hand. Any other suggestions?!
