I have a very long 8mm steel cable with eyes in both ends and a large padlock with some thick oil inside it.
Lasted 6 years and came undone easy.
The cable goes through the ladder rung and around a tree.
If the lock failed I would cut the cable (hard to do with a hacksaw) or cut the 25x2.5mm box and weld it back up but that is me.

Hi tim.243 thanks for reply, I haven't got any trees within a reasonable distance and high seat needs to be where it is for vision etc,looking for more ground anchor type suggestions

You can buy what are called “ Ground Anchores” they look like a giant corkscrew and come with a tool that you wind them in to the ground, you could chain/lock it to one of them you can’t get the anchores out without the tool

Be aware that some ground anchors can be removed without the tool by using a suitable strong enough bar, hard work but doable, but ground anchor...hurricane anchors have a higher rating will be best method

Being a fabricator I would weld a eye on a scaffold pole cut an angle on it. Take my 10lb sledge bash it in to the hilt and chain it up...A screw in ground anchor will come undone just as easy as it went in. "see dogs who rip them out on shoots"
All of this is only as good as the lock/chain which is the weakest link.
One farm wraps a big chain 3 times through a gate with a cheap padlock lol

As per my ground anchor suggestion put two of these in, thread a chain through the rings at the top and through the leg of your high seat, once locked you won’t be able to undo the anchors with the chain through them

A cheep simple idea, 3 good quality fencing posts (creosote maybe) with a good bar make a Pilate hole and drive the posts in as far as you can and secure the seat with ratchet straps
