Hik Micro Thunder 3.0 Rusan Adapter Instructions

Having lost a Rusan adapter 2 nights ago from my 50mm Swaro scope (I carry muzzle down) and I thought it was tight, I could not locate any instructions from Rusan on how to tighten their adapter. I quick email yielded the following:

Rusan Adapter Instructions.webp

I don't want to loose another and equally, I don't want to damage the scope, hence the need to understand what the OEM recommends.

Unsightly as it will be, I think I may add a layer of rubber self-amalgamating electrician's tape to the rear to add further security. Does any other user have any good tips to prevent loss please?

A couple of questions if I may. When the Thunder is removed and you have just the adapter on:-

1. How much light is prevented from entering the scope ie how much of an “iris” is there

2. When adaptor only how do you prevent rain getting on the objective? (as I stalk in the West Country ☔⛈️ 💦)

1 - Zero as the locking adapter ring opening is the same size as the objective. Think of it as a kind of sun shade.
2 - I too stalk in the West Country but I carry barrel down, far safer IMHO plus I’m not “waiving” my mod above my head nor catching it on branches (only downside is not noticing the last adapter falling off ) so removing the expensive Swaro flip cover and leaving the adapter in place, is not an issue for me.

As said elsewhere, this is a bit of an experiment at present to see whether I can have the daylight full benefit of the Swaro’s optics with the clip-on giving me that extra FL/LL golden hours rather that putting the Alpex back on and having to endure the inferior daylight performance throughout the day. We’ll see next Friday 🤞

So, out stalking LL last night (as int for Friday) so I tried to retrace my steps from the night I’d lost the original Rusan clamp. Braced the cow field again (jostled and kicking out again), bumped a roe doe which then lifted as it ran a nice roe buck (too quick for a shot) and then a brace of muntjac. Across 2 fields and there, on the ground where I had gone through a hedge, was the “lost” clamp. Tellingly, the release lever was lifted and then it dawned on me ( ) that as I carry muzzle down, the lever was against my leg whilst stalking. I can only assume as I negotiated the hedge, it snagged and released. Time for modification no 2 - I shall rotate the clamp so the lever is more protected rather than lining up the “open position” in-line with the elevation turret :coat:

Yup

Fitted replacement yesterday and added electrician's "green-line" self-amalgamating tape to rear. Was shooting all day at a competition in Wales today and on the last 10 of 40+ rounds fired, it fell off!

FFS

Just another piece of evidence that front add-ons are basically a bad idea
Any device designed to do two jobs, rarely does either well

far from a bad idea , if you want a thermal for foxing only then yea get a dedicated thermal scope, if you want a all round rifle then get a add on

But is it good enough is my question I’m attempting to better understand. My Hik Alpex is a productive tool but it’s way inferior to my glass during the day. If the clip-on is good enough to give me sufficient success in those golden hours, then as I’m only after deer and not fox, I’ve achieved a better outcome for my circumstances.

Jury is currently out but rather than talking about it, I’m trying it myself to see if it suits my needs. It may be a compromise that better suits my needs.
