Hik Micro Trail Cam - use with 12v battery?

Anyone tried this? I have lots of Spypoint kit which is really unreliable so wanted to try HIk. However 12v battery connection is different. Have tried with an adapter and a new dedicated cable but camera only seems to work with batteries which die fast.

Also has anyone seen metal security boxes for these like Spypoint?
