That's exactly what I have in mind, although not for €600 for the carrier and hoistHave a look at these. They do exactly what you looking for.
Well it's excellent quality and you know what they say in this business.... buy once....That's exactly what I have in mind, although not for €600 for the carrier and hoist![]()
These are good but they have a weakness in the way the basket clamps to the tow ball. I know two people who have them & both have been modified to remove the the jawed clamp which has a habit of ‘letting go’. I can imagine that the incidence of this happening would increase if you were to have the hoist as well - the socket for the hoist is on a plate that is sandwiched between the tow ball attachment & the basket so any load from using the hoist has a fair amount of leverage on that clamp. The two I know about have had the attachment modified so they have a plate bolted between the tow bar & tow ball that has a box section socket welded to it that is parallel to the ground & perpendicular to the plate. This has a hole through it for a retaining pin. The plate with the jaws on has been removed from the basket & replaced with a new one that has a smaller piece of box section welded to it that fits inside the piece on the car. That way there is no friction grip to fail if you hoist a big fallow buck up to get it in the basket!Have a look at these. They do exactly what you looking for.
The ones I’m talking about have a bolt in the top that’s wound up to tighten up three jaws around the tow ball. Sounds like the arrangement has changed for the better.Never had an issue with these type of clamp hitches. They are used on nearly every type of towbar cycle rack all over the world, so they are obviously up to the job.
I'm not sure how it would 'let go' if it's adjusted correctly. It goes over-centre, with a locking pin and a padlock on the lever, so it can't simply come undone. Maybe if it's over-tightened the casting could crack when under stress. The hitch is rated to 89kg, so a large fallow buck would be near it's limit.
They state these hoists can take 150kg+, not sure I'd test that though. As you say a lot of torsional stress on the mount point. The upright should go through the mount to the ground, and into it if it's soft ground, to help the load.
I'd only use it for Roe on my ground so should be ok for that.
Iv got a carrier that id part with. I believe its the type that goes over the towball and clamps by using a socket
I have the same one but I've never used itIv got a carrier that id part with. I believe its the type that goes over the towball and clamps by using a socket
That's why I posted what I have.I'm specifically looking for one that works with a 2" square receiver (us style) rather than a towball
Ah I thought you were talking 2" tow ball.I'm specifically looking for one that works with a 2" square receiver (us style) rather than a towball
