Moving into a new house, and considering what security system to put in place.

Good deals on Ring/Simplisafe DIY wireless systems at the moment with Black Friday coming up.

Be interested to hear what others are using/recommend or equally if there is anything to avoid!?

Hi

My 'Mob', 22 yrs after not needed! were okay with a Yale wireless system for an outbuilding..........

Previous Homestead had a Yale wireless system that worked well, including an outbuilding. Most likely improved from 25-30yrs ago!

i have the monitored simplisafe system ,its great WHEN IT WORKS! the system is easy to fit and works 85% of the time .it drops some of the window or door monitors and i have to call simlisafe and they reset the monitor and it all works again for a couple of months then another part of the system fails. the system does tell you where the fault is and its quickly fixed BUT NOT IDEAL FOR A SECURITY SYSTEM .

Ring have a good sale on just now if you head that route

I have it in our home and have no complaints. Easy to setup and the app is great.

Gone with Eufy myself. Good app you get notifications on and can view video of what triggered the camera / alarm and also live view and 2 way talk through cameras. No subscription for this unlike Ring.

Thanks all - will look into Eufy and then make a decision between it and Ring which seem to be the two to look at.

Had heard similar stories about Simplisafe so will give them a miss.

For more than six firearms (rifles+shotguns) my FEO insisted on a professionally installed and maintained unit, from a certified installer - but stopped short of a monitored service
I went with Pyronix

Ridiculous that they make up these imaginary rules

I did check the Firearms Security Handbook, as produced by the FELWG, the National Police Chiefs Council in England, Wales and Scotland and the British Shooting Sports Council
to see if I could avoid installing a 'proper' alarm - and didn't think I could make a successful case for a Variation without it ... 🤷‍♂️

  • Level 2

2.18 Where the individual circumstances are such that additional security might be required due to factors such as:
  •  Repeat victimisation
  •  High-crime location
  •  Building regularly unoccupied,
  • Substantial number of firearms on the premises
In addition to the provision of a suitable cabinet, gun room or safe, the following may be considered:
a) The final exit door locks should be to BS3621 (2016) or equivalent and any French Doors/Patio Windows should have an integral locking system or be provided with supplementary locks to delay forcible opening, together with anti-lift blocks if applicable. These requirements will usually be met in properties with UPVC doors or specialist doors with a multi-locking system secured by deadlock.
b) Windows on the ground floor and those accessible from flat roofs etc. should be fitted with an appropriate type and number of locks which are self-latching or key operated. These should have casement-to-frame locking along the opening edge.
c) An audible intruder alarm to the appropriate standard protecting either the whole premises or those parts of the premises where guns are stored.

I’ve had a eufy system since 2022 and can’t fault it.

That said, I also have three of the DIHOOM cameras from Amazon, which retail for under £40 per unit, and they’ve also been excellent.

I looked at ADT and Verisure recently to upgrade my alarm. Verisure should be called Verihardsell. Took a lot of effort to get them stop calling. The ADT quote looks reasonable and ongoing pricing was not too challenging either.

Be careful with any system that relies on your broadband connection. Not alarm related, as mine has a SIM installed, but my broadband dropped last week for 24 hours and I was very surprised at how much of my home automation just stopped working. If the alarms are as reliant, then there could be challenges, so make sure they can store footage locally too, or have a SIM capability.

Regards
