Hornaday bullets

For those who reload in 30 cal. I have used Barnes for decades but recently became very dissatisfied with their quality control since they were taken over by Federal. I have experimented with Hornaday and am really impressed. The lead ELDX is incredibly accurate and drops 39 cm at 300 m with my 30 06 the CX 110 copper is really flat and fast at 3740 fps and drops 27 cm at 300 m but is flat to 175 m.(zero 100m). I really do recommend these Hornaday bullets. They have a consistent weight to +/- 0.1grains unlike the Barnes +/- 0.8 gns

Couldn't get their monoflex to work in my 3030 how I would like and recovered bullets showed no expansion.
The Barnes 110gn @palmer_mike kindly sent are very accurate though. And do expand.

I don't mind Hornady but preferred, years ago, Speer bullets.
In fact just at the moment my go to in the 3030 is the Speer 130gn and it's proven itself several times now over the traditional 150 and 170gn choices.

With the 6.5 ELDX bullets, I’ve encountered inconsistent weights; in a single box, I sorted out three batches of three different weights. They are no longer my top choice—unlike Nosler bullets, which I consider decidedly superior, whenever you can actually find them.

I don't mind Hornady but preferred, years ago, Speer bullets.

In 243 I've used Speer flat base SP at 90 grains for 35 plus years. Always done the business.
Last time I used Hornady,late 1980's ISH, I pulled the remaining bullets on a batch I was having trouble with. Not expanding at all.
On a whim I ran a magnet over them, I actually picked some up and was able to move others about using the magnet. Don't know what their construction was but I've never loaded another Hornady bullet for my own use.

Always used Hornady, had the 212 eldx out to just over a mile and the 155 amax to 800yds. The rifle/bullet combination doesn't know it can't do it

I remember when the vmax range came out. A friend at the time was using the old sxsp and switched to the vmax.
We killed no more than before and a couple of years ago I acquired some old 50gn sxsp and they were fantastic. Much preferable in my opinion than the vmax.
