Hornady eld-x 6.5 creedmoor

You can go a little higher if you wish. I would check for consistency/accuracy and if it’s hitting where it is expected with tight groups, leave it at that. You are in the middle and looking good to me.
The 6.5 Creedmoor at higher pressures can and will reduce barrel life, running it hot is not required for accuracy at short or long ranges.
I turned it up some more, tho getting slightly flattened primers , not sure if that could be headspace tho’ no othe pressure signs and read so much conflicting info on flattened primers (magtec lrp) I get the same flattening primers with seller and bellot factory loads? So have paused load development do now until I can get some more info on the subject ..I’m going to get the headspace comparator to see if I’m bumping the shoulders back too far when full length sizing..any knowledge/advice gratefully received,, cheers👍🏻

If you are concerned about pressure just set 42.2gn as your max. Had any sticky bolt (and by sticky anything remotely harder than normal) or extractor swipes on the case heads?

I usually load 3 rounds of each at 0.3 grain increments, would tend to chrono after ive done this inital test and picked something out.
Shoot 3 round groups at 100 or 200 yds, working up charge weights and dont let the gun get red hot, any signs of pressure just call it a day, or get a satisfactory group als

Then pick the middle of the best groups and it gives you some leeway in either direction.

Lee dies, Lee press, nothing fancy needed. 🤣

Looking at it.....
the vit data is based on a COAL of 2.70 not 2.800... so you have more room in your case for powder, the deeper seating of the vit data will increase preassures slightly sooner, same can be said for the other extreme of a bullet being jammed into the lands....

My bergara is at 2.830. Seems happy.

Hello incidentally i was playing around with N555 last range trip for a target load ( appreciatre this not a hunitng load) .
highest node i found was at 42.4 ( no pressure signs )
Recipie as below :
Blaser R8 , match barrel 600mm
N555 42.4gr
2620 fps
139 Lapua scenar
Lapua SRP
CCI SRP
COAL 72mm (Max magazine lenght)
gives average groups of 0.45- 0.4MOA

Will continue up to 43 and see what happens looking for a bit of higher speeds .

Ah, good point , I totally overlooked that ,, cheers👍🏻

No problem, don't be scared to change bullets too. I ran a test with 142gn sierra match Kings and was struggling to get anything under 1moa/0.7moa
Switched to 143gn eldx, node at 42.5 - 43gn with 2.830 coal and rs62.

I have lee set up👍🏻,
No sticky bolt at all , nor ejector swipe marks,.
I also wonder if magtec primers are softer ( always used Winchester before) the magtec are brass coloured?
Cheers

I have a batch of Magtec LR, however not yet used them my go to has been CCI, can’t find any currently so picked up 1k of magtec.
Don’t get carried away with large muzzle velocities if you’re in the mid range, the rifle will be smoother anf pleasant (not that 6.5 is hash). The important stuff is a decent bc bullet and consistently hitting the same poi, unless your looking for 1 mile +

N555 will not get really high speeds in a barrel under 24".

Ball powders are getting popular for a reason!
My barrels 24” , I also have some Hunter that definitely gets faster results but not much left worth developing a load for.., I’m not especially chasing super high speeds, original post was trying to find expected norm for the eld-x, which as most things depends on individuals choice, expectations and needs ,, so the rabbit hole deepens 😅,, cheers 👍🏻

Hello, I have a 22” barrel 1-8 twist superlite, using N555 42.9grs Lapua case with federal SRP and OAL 2.9”, 2635 fps and bullets touching at 100m

Muzzle velocity and pressure do not have a linear relationship. Some powders that are less than ideal will produce greater chamber pressures but fail to produce comparable muzzle velocity to a better suited powder.

One of the main aims of military small arms munitions development is lowering pressures without losing (or in some cases, gaining) muzzle velocity.
