We have a week booked in a cottage near Pitlochry at the end of September. Would like to travel up a day early, any recommendations for nice hotel somewhere north of Stirling? Budget around £200-250
Thank you

Jon

Forgot to say- will be travelling with the rat pack, who stay in the truck, but will need to have a car park and ideally not town centre.

A bit further South than Stirling, but we’ve now enjoyed two stays at Springkell, near Lockerbie, on the way North:

Rooms are from £95 a night upwards, plus you can eat in the hotel. The hotel itself is on its own estate, and is dog-friendly with car parking on site.

Our last stay we drove from Springkell to Inverness, which was an easy drive. Google Maps suggests just over 2.5 hours to Pitlochry.

Your best options have been covered I think; break the journey at the Border or push on to Perthshire after Stirling.

If pushing on, Atholl Arms in Dunkeld is an alternative to Dunkeld House; dog friendly, car park etc. Eat at the Perth Arms or Taybank 👍

Athol Arms is always good and I’ve stayed in a large hotel on the left in the middle of Pitlochary too that was busy but clean and tidy (sorry can’t recal its name but it’s hard to miss)

I would recommend The Rob Roy at Aberfoyle. It is a mile out of the village, large grounds 100 yards from the bank of the River Forth
The old rail track leading to the village along the side of the river is tarmac, it is a slow walk as the locals all wish to chat
We have been there nine times.

Fisher's Hotel?

To be honest....if you're travelling from Norfolk, it's a long run up to Stirling in one go. A different idea might be to travel up to the Dryfesdale Hotel at Lockerbie - a decent Best Western Hotel, easy to get to from the M74 and out of town with a decent car park. Probably about 275 miles from you and about 145 miles from Pitlochry.
Only thing to watch out for is the ever present speed traps on the M74......some nice straight stretches of motorway around there......:norty:

Fishers? Ahh, I need to learn to read the full post first, haha.

Thanks all for your input- I’d rather get real recommendations than stars on a website. Will look at the options, staying further south does make sense too.

I am a bit fan of the Meikleour Arms just south of Blairgowrie. If it's just for one night though, I'd suggest not, as their best accomodation are their self-catered cottages on the estate - but require a minimum of 2 or 3 nights from memory.

I do like the Tayside as well (in Stanley) but it's a very different (older) feeling to Meikleour.
