How’s .223 foxing setup

Hi all,

I currently have a howa 1500 .223 with 20inch varmint barrel sat in an MDT Oryx chassis

I’d like to turn this into my main foxing setup but lugging it around or trying to manoeuvre it in a vehicle in its current format would not be ideal.

Do I revert back to the original houge stock or is there another lightweight stock available?

Thanks
Jack

Hi jack I have a .223 howa1500 sat in a oryx chassis and it is certainly heavier than the houge and laminate stock I have got, fortunately for me I dont have to lug the gun around much when out shooting it.

Of the top of my head your thoughts on dropping it back into the houge stock would make it lighter to carry round.

I'm not sure if the GRS offerings would be worth a look as I have bo experience with them

I'd have thought that heavy profile metal is adding more weight than swapping stocks 🤷

I have the same rifle in the same chassis. The Oryx feels lighter than the GRS Berserk it came with and it balances well. I am pretty sure if I put it into a lightweight stock it'd become unbalanced, and hugely front heavy.

It's a heavy rifle and that's mainly down the the barrel.

It’s a foxing gun with a varmint barrel its going to be heavy lol.

I have a Howa 1500 .223 with a KRG stock. Its just the way it is. You can get a DPT mod to lighten things up but. Lets be honest most foxing is ambush tactics anyway. Just get a decent tripod and let it sit in there

A howa PSE composite stock is a great stock for strength and light weight for carrying.
They do come up for sale on here now and again.

I have a Aussie Precision stock - Howa 1500, cant list here as I don't have the post count yet. Can PM details is interested.

that's a nice rig😎

I do fancy a KRG Bravo for my other howa 1500.

Nice bolt, how would one go about getting something like that as I dont like the factory one
You can buy a half shell clamp on one, Just fits over the existing bolt knob. A 30sec job and saves machining the original bolt.
