How is the British Game Alliance financed?

Can a BASC Member please read the below and then, perhaps, ask how much is "the substantial support package" and how much is the charge referred to in the document that can be found here via the link to the UK GOV website.

And lastly where and how might a BASC Member view BASC's accounts and in particular the value of the charge referred to in the UK GOV website document linked to.

Because as is known from this said above at the 2019 AGM that BASC's acounts are no longer published in the BASC magazine.

(BASC AGM 2019: The Chairman opened the floor for questions.

Mr XXXX XXXX – asked the following four questions:

Mr XXXX XXXX commented that he had a job to find the accounts and why were they not published.

Ian Bell thanked Mr XXXX for his feedback and stated that it is a significant amount of money to publish the accounts in the Shooting &Conservation. We do not feel this is the best use of Members money. Therefore, we have made them available online.)

Anyway....

"How is the BGA financed?

  • The BGA has three lines of primary income:
    • Membership fees from shoots
    • Voluntary 50p donation paid by guns
    • A number of commercial partnerships from within the shooting industry"
This is from BASC's own website:

BASC backs British Game Alliance with support package | The British Association for Shooting and Conservation

"BASC has announced today it has provided a substantial support package to the BGA which includes financial backing, access to BASC staff expertise and a BASC council member to sit on the BGA board."

"Tom Adams, managing director of the BGA, said: “The BGA is grateful for BASC’s support. Working together, we can focus on delivering our shared objectives of a sustainable game market and credible self-regulation.""

Here can be found the UK GOV website:

8.CREDITORS: AMOUNTS FALLING DUE AFTER MORE THAN ONE
YEAR
£
Long term loan92,500

The accounts are mute on who is the provider of the "long term loan". So, to help shed light, if it is, or not, perhaps a BASC Member could ask for clarification?

This an effective takeover from what I can see as the LL company "the Game Alliance" is broke (see accounts) the loan document link posted at the bottom is so rigid that it retains the name but puts BASC fully in charge (again in my opinion). It seems that the 'contribution' by BASC protects its members but essentially fills a hole in the accounts and given the Game Alliance has very little cash and any other assets - it seems they bought the name but not the whole board - yet.

Any help

Basc Ltd and basc direct Ltd. ??.

And

Again what stands out is that, once more, the members were presumably not consulted? Instead of a loan to BGA that BASC loan money could have funded a judicial review of a Chief Constable's attempt to impose "no extra medical input = no grant/renewal" but, again, the members were not consulted on that either.

I know which use of THEIR MONEY would have benefitted members best in the immediate term and in the medium and long term. Where's the democratic control? This "Father knows best" paternalistic approach in this digital age is unacceptable. Root and branch reform and a severe cutting out the of deadwood is overdue.

Looks like the BASC members present were happy enough with the accounts.

7. ADOPTION OF THE ANNUAL REPORT AND AUDITED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 DECEMBER 2018

The Chairman opened the floor for any further questions regarding the financial statements.

No questions were raised.

The Chairman moved onto the adoption of the Annual Report and Audited Accounts:

Proposer was Claire Sadler. Seconder was Martyn Jones.

Since I am not a member it is of no real concern to me but why "buy in to " a limited liability company which is basically insolvent. Why not wait for it to be irrecoverable and take it over for a song ?
I would hate to think this is a case of 'keeping it in the family' for 10's of thousands of pounds of members money.
I wonder if BASC would ever explain why they have done this - members, as Enfield says, might be concerned enough to ask - after all nearly 100k @ £80 annual membership is 12,000 members subs.
I would bet a JR, including the pre-process would have cost little more than 10K and if successful, as I would have expected, how much more would they have saved the 500,000+ shooters at an average of £100 renewal assuming 25% a year ? Over a £million.
If baling out friends is worth nearly 100K why is the membership (and all of us ) not worth a tenth of that ?
Certainly a question I would ask.

If you lot are looking for shifty looking connections, you're on the periphery. Look for people who are directors of this, directors of a "food procurement company", previous employees or office holders at BASC, etc.
It is absolutely NOT the case that it might look to a suspicious mind as though individuals connected in such a manner stand to profit personally from BASC funding BGA, BASC's reversed lead policy benefitting another company, another company benefitting from BGA's promotional activities......and everybody else not benefitting.

He voted strongly for the abolition of hunting

Do you have a source for this quote by any chance?

I have seen the following quote attributed to him so the two don't exactly line up.

" I would like the opportunity to help BASC, working with BSSC and other responsible organisations, to be even more effective in the future, as we need to be as strong, vigilant, and together as possible in order to protect our sports and keep shooting! "

I think my posts were genuinely asking why would BASC do this and others where the 'mandate' came from to acquire it- If I were a member, I would ask. The Game Alliance is broke from what I can see so why pay its debt apparently - if you have an answer to that I would be grateful as thats all I am asking. The fact that the outcome answer does not affect me has already been stated. The question for any inquiring mind is still - why its a lot of money and LL companies cost naf all to set up and change their name.

I dont see this accusatory but interesting and, incidentally I dont care if anyone at all makes money out of it - I am not a subscriber for the fourth time, maybe fifth. Interest is purely altruistic - exactly that. I would suspect Enfield's interest is also the same.

I wouldn't say your assertion in the last sentence of your post is necessarily true but I am glad that you (presumably as a BASC member), are so overwhelmingly sure.

That's a very good question. But I'm not sure that looking at very small co. accounts like that can definitely reveal a clear picture of solvency.
One also does not know what the loan was spent on. Incidentally, it's about 1,000 subscriptions, not 10,000.

My last paragraph is certainly not an assertion.
