How to fit a safe to dry wall.

I was in this situation not too long ago. I wanted to put two cabinets in a cupboard but the rear wall is a stud wall. I took the plasterboard off, fitted some 4x4 batons in place to match the holes in each cabinet, fitted new plasterboard then attached the cabinets through the back and bottom with coach screws. They both passed scrutiny including the heave test.

The cabinets take up pretty much the full width of the cupboard so nobody can get a saw or anything like that in there. The only way they could be removed without opening them would be to smash the wall down from the other side. When I mentioned this to the FEO she said people have been known to go to great lengths to take a safe. I replied that if someone wanted to get in they'd just cut the front off with a battery grinder or, if they had a bit more sense, bring a 9" grinder and an extension lead. It was concluded that either grinder method would be more likely than lugging full cabinets down the stairs and out of the house!

Just fix it securely to whatever feels solid and test it by doing what the FEO will do, open the door, grap hold of the top, and heave on it to see if it comes away from the wall.

That is surely not a reasonable test?

Your FEO isn't going to take an angle grinder to it to prove that your security is lacking, all he's interested in is have you secured it to the structure or just stood it in a cupboard.
I would suggest however that if you think your DIY skills may not be quite up there, empty the cabinet of all of your guns before he attempts to pull it off the wall, just in case.

Recommend using one of these to drill the pilot hole for floor mounting bolts. Feo will never shift the raw plugs, no matter how many Greg’s steak bakes and Bavarian slices he/ she has professionally consumed in their career.

“Drywall” literally just means plasterboard.
Nobody builds a house out of just plasterboard.
I took it that ibisbill has a timber frame house with plasterboard on the walls.
