Tip from an old stalker - put Ariel Biological in the boiling water - and don't boil for too long or it will disintegrate.

This also whitens and de-greases the thing - its the fat and grease that stains it.

Soda crystals is what I have always used to good effect when boiling out.

They sell it in Tesco's with all the other washing detergents. The one I use is in a green bag, similar size to that of a bag of flour.

+1 for biological washing powder. Careful with your knife when cleaning the skull, I once slipped the blade into a joint in my hand and had a week off work. Also once blew the nail off my index finger with a power wash "just trying to get that last bit" - just tie it to something and forget holding it in your hand!
