Has anyone got this condition detailed on their FAC ?

Would be interested in speaking to anyone who has it or has had hassle getting it on their ticket.

Cheers,

Mark

I do it is only one one gun and it was a long prosess to get it on my ticket if I can help I will what do you want to know?

I've got it on mine I asked when I renewed 10 years ago and it was no problem, does mean that I can use solid slugs in a 9 shot semi auto , I don't use it much but I have been called by the local bobby to deal with rta's. I'm not sure how complicated it would be to get it now.

All my firearms, rifles and black powder revolver are all down for the "humane killing of animals". Didn't even have to ask.

Please don't confuse condition which permits the holder to purchase expanding ammunition in connection with;
(a) the lawful shooting of deer
(b) the shooting of vermin or in connection with the management of any estate, other wildlife
(c) the humane killing of animals
(d) the shooting of animals for the protection of other animals or humans

This condition is for the ammo only, unless it states specifically for each firearm.... tread carefully ;)

Eveyone I know who has a FAC with expanding ammo has that condition. Big difference between that and "HUMANE DISPATCH OF ANIMALS"

please be aware of good intention of dispatching something at the side of the road with a firearm opens a can of worms that you may not be aware of !!!

Spot on !!!!:thumb:

Humane slaughter of sick and injured animals on all of my rifles and .38 special pistol. West Mercia constabulary and not too much hassle. Damned useful from time to time.

If it's genuinely for the purpose of ending (or preventing further) suffering, then I think you can do it whatever, without fear of reprisal.
If it's for human consumption (ie, home slaughter of domestic livestock) then you can do it using a shotgun if it's for your own consumption, or in some cases for other members of your own household, but not if it's for someone else or for sale.

Not according to my firearms dept, I work with livestock and asked for it to be added as I deal with sick/injured livestock all the time. They preferred it if I called out a vet and refused to budge, I just use a shotgun with reduced powder for the purpose. This was a few years ago and may have changed

Suggest you check this out as my understanding is that using a firearm for a purpose for which it is not conditioned is a serious no no, whatever the circumstances.

Do you mind me asking what is your reason for requesting it on your fac.

If thats explained somebody might be able to offer relevant advice.

I attended a BDS run Lantra approved Humane Dispatch Course at the back end of last year. Being involved with the BDS at branch level in my area I was looking to put a register together with others to assist with RTA's in the local area.

On receiving my course certificate I sent it in with a covering letter and my firearms certificate to have this condition added . I have now been told by local FEO that they never been asked for such a condition ( Lothian and Borders Police) now Police Scotland .

I was hoping to get some feed back from those who have had this condition added.

Interesting thread and points being raised. When interviewed for my FAC I was actually asked if I wanted humane dispatch included. I live on in-laws farm, majority of shooting will be here to help control numbers of various beasties, FEO asked if I needed it and what caliber/firearm I might be after.
At time I didn't see it as necessary for myself as b-in-law has it so said no.
Now wondering in retrospect if I should maybe have given it more thought and said yes when path was easy than possibly having to ask again in future. There are occasions he's away and farmhand (very capable and experienced) is in charge but he doesn't have a SGC/FAC.
One of those that is very rarely needed but when it is the need is real.

That's an Interesting scenario, at the Interview for my last renewal I asked for .32 S&W to assist with humane despatch, the FEO was all in favour and suggested that I should write an accompanying letter to support my application, the reply came back to state that ' Your request for the grant of 32 has been declined, a grant of said firearm cannot be made on the assumption that you may only need the said firearm In the future'... Honestly, you couldn't make It up!.....I will apply again, If only for the fun of It.

That strikes me as really odd them stating to not having been asked for such a condition..

I guess if some kind folk on here pm you their details if theyve been fortunate to be granted the condition in your force area then youve got a great response to go back at them
