Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla owners?

this is my bitch amber

Cracking dogs if you ever have any pony trouble!
My 18mth bitch is out of Zak from Musket and a dam from Rory Major.
She's a great dog, super keen on deer and game, just a bitch for chasing.
I love the breed but have to say they can be nervy.
Talk to the WHVA.

We have had a house guest for the weekend, and she has been an absolute delight. Only 9 months old but very biddable and points the pheasants in the garden like a seasoned pro.

My wife has informed that our next dog will be a Vizla!

I have worked german shorthaired pointers labs and spaniels ALOT for nearly 40 years on game and I would only consider whv as an alternative hpr breed. They are excellent game finders and fairly biddable and good family dogs but how soft the mouth I dinna ken !

Mines a woolly one :

I have always fancied a Vizsla. I currently have a Springer but I was thinking, I can put her in cover and she will flush games while out of sight, how would a Viszla work in those situations? If it found something would they just stay on point until found or flush it on their own? If the latter does that weaken their training?

I can only talk about mine, but he will not do brambles or nettles unless he really has to. He flushes game without much pointing when beating. On my own or with a low density of game he will generally point birds for me. His previous owner (I got him at 4) said he used to point and hold very well every time, until he was maybe spoilt by doing too much walk/stand gameshooting and having had birds he was pointing repeatedly flushed by spaniels etc. So I guess he thought if I cannot beat them join them.

Some will get into thick cover but most i've seen will go round or indicate from the edge. They are designed with quite a long leg to cover ground by quartering through or over. Thick brambles require short legs, that said mine will get on her belly and crawl if she know there is a rabbit or pheasant in there. A spaniel will dive in on the off chance.

Most need to be trained to hold point for any time. Pointing is natural but they do road in if not held back in training.

Bit late on this thread, just a few of pictures of my bitch, would not be without her on the hill. They just seem to adapt to whatever you are doing. Be it stalking, walked up, picking up, rough shooting etc.
