Hyena hunt

Have any SD members ever hunted spotted hyena? If so, how was it arranged? Where did it happen? Are they a challenge?

Have a look at the Hunting Agency website, Roo Ellis used to do predator hunts especially for Hyena and Jackal, don't know if he still does though.

Thanks for the replies. I should have said I'm arranging a hunt for me and three friends in early 2014 with Guy Swart of Wild Horizons in the Eastern Cape. I was really looking for info on hunting them from people who have actually hunted them as opposed to finding and outfitter. He can locate any species in RSA, I just wanted to hear other peoples experiences etc. I've been out with Guy before and we had such an amazing time we're doing it again.

What's the story behind this one?

This one was taken over offal baits from the flesh house which were deposited away from camp.

30-06 does the job nicely, 458 does too.
They are evil looking and to watch them feeding is eye opener, they will rip, chew, snarl bare teeth and really go for it, with each other too, I wouldn`t like to meet one on a dark night.
Hell of a set of jaws/teeth on them,powerful too.
Some people say they are hard to kill, I haven`t found so, just stick the bullet in the right place.

Got mine over dead baboon bait at last light with a .300 Winmag. Not especially challenging and I gut shot the poor thing. Had to do a quick tracking job and luckily managed to finish him off a couple of minutes later. They make nice rugs!
