Hi
I live in Yorkshire and I shoot a Heym SR20 N in 7x57 Mauser I shoot clay pigeons too and have a Browning 725 Pro sport. My shooting is in Cumbria and is shooting paper and simulated stalking steel animal targets. I got my rifle and some ammunition just prior to the covid lockdowns and did two guided stalks. Life took various twists and turns and earlier this year I did a simulated stalking day in Cumbria and had a fantastic day and have been doing this since.
I was a handgun shooter before the ban and reloaded my own ammunition and I want to reload my own 7x57 ammunition. I bought factory ammo when I bought my rifle, all of it for hunting but I also bought some Priti Partizan PPU 7x57 cartridges shooting 173gr FMJ bullets. Because Im shooting paper and steel and 'learning to shoot' this seemed a cheap way to dip my toe in, get some rounds down range and get some brass. Anyway, I have some PPU brass, some Hornady brass that was loaded with 139gr SST bullets, some Gecco brass which was loaded with 162gr soft points. I have some Norma Oryx rounds too which I have not fired as yet.
I have the latest Vithavouri catalogue and managed to get hold of some N150 powder and some 162gr Hornady VLD match bullets and also some 139gr SST heads. The Vit catalogue gives data for 160gr bullets and 140gr ammunition in 7x57. The recommended starting load for N150 with a 160gr bullet is 38.6 gr and for the 140gr bullet 40.9 gr.
Because Im loading a 162 gr bullet and a 139gr bullet do I need to change the suggested starting load? Also, the factory Hornady 139gr SST ammo that I still have is crimped. Should I do the same and crimp as per the factory load using the once fired Hornady brass. Thanks in advance.
